This Week at Zion

Pentecost Sunday

The breath of the Almighty.  The wind.  The sustainer.  A counselor.  An advocate.  The paraclete.  These are words and names for God's spirit, the Holy Spirit.  On Pentecost Sunday, we reflect on the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles.  They were filled with the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.  In our focus text from Romans 8:22-27 we read ". . . we know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time."  This Pentecost we will investigate what it means for the Holy Spirit to "groan".  Come and be with us for a Spirit-filled time of love and fellowship.  All are welcome at Zion.

Remember to wear RED this Sunday!

Come Holy Spirit

When I arrived at church last Saturday at 8:15 for our cleanup session, Peter Johnston was already wielding his shovel cleaning the gutters on Franklin Street.  Mike Newcomb was already cleaning the rooms which will host our Family Promise guests beginning this weekend.  Soon others joined us and much good work was done sprucing up the premises.  They didn't have to spend Saturday morning at Zion but they did.  Why?

We make priorities in our lives and one of our priorities (I hope!!!) is our faith and church life.  Part of our church life involves our efforts to make sure our place of worship is adequately cared for.  We are stewards and custodians of a beautiful place where we come to worship and come to be in community with each other.  We didn't build this building.  The saints who came before us did that.  It is our responsibility to care for it in order that those who follow us will have the opportunity to grow in Christ at Zion as we have.

We must like this place just as our predecessors did because we keep coming back.  As we travel across the country and throughout the world this summer we will all come back to Delaware and we will all come back to Zion.  The Holy Spirit leads us back to a place where we feel we can worship a loving God in God's spirit of extravagant hospitality and welcome.  The Holy Spirit directs us in appropriate ways to apply this building in mission to this community.  The Holy Spirit comes upon us and is present as we discern what it means to be the church that God has called upon us to be.

Come Holy Spirit, come.

Pastor Pete

Ride Needed

Jerry Elliot's sister, Judy, is ill and in a medical facility in the Dayton area.  Jerry and Ann would really like to visit her sometime next week, but are unable to drive there themselves.  They would really appreciate if someone could drive them to visit her in Kettering.  If you are able to offer assistance, please email Ann at annkelliot@gmail.com    Thank you!

Welcome New Members!

We welcomed five new members on Sunday. Chad, John, Kellye, Phyllis & Robert-- we are so happy to have you as part of Zion's family!

175th Anniversary Quilt

The deadline is approaching to turn in your quilt square for Zion's anniversary quilt.  The Quilt Committee would like to have all squares turned in by the end of June to allow time to put everything together.  If you need any help, please contact Marlene Hitchcock or Rose Ann Haynes.
Completed squares are on display in the back of the sanctuary.  This is going to be a really beautiful keepsake!
