This Week at Zion
There is no such thing as an individual Christian. That is what the great theologian Karl Barth said and believed. In other words, we are inextricably bound together as members of a flock, with Jesus as our shepherd. We don't just empathize or sympathize with the suffering and cares of our neighbor. We suffer the same pain. It is our pain as a part of the same body. That is the nature of the Body of Christ. If one member within the body suffers, all in the body suffer. So, the question we will reflect upon this Sunday is this; as members of the same flock, which pasture will we lie down in? Will we lie down in green pastures where Christ relieves us from suffering and oppression or pastures where we graze upon the false nourishment of selfishness and ego. All are welcome at Zion. Plan to be with us.
Thank you for serving Zion this Sunday:

From the Pastor's Desk
Spring Housecleaning
Many years ago, I auditioned for a part in The Odd Couple. That, in and of itself, is not unusual. What is extraordinary is that I was given the role of Felix. Felix is about as different as a character could be from myself. Truth be known, I am much more of an Oscar; not particularly drawn to matters of "the way it must be" with everything "in its place". Having said that, I do like our church to be neat and tidy. I think Melissa would be pleased if she saw my habits at Zion extend to my habits around the house (but the likelihood of that happening is slim!).
I like the church and church grounds to be in good order because it presents Zion well to visitors and guests. it also says something very significant about how important this place is to each of us. Yes, any space can be holy. But isn't it nice when a particular holy place represents some of the holiness in each of us. I think so. I hope you do also. That is the representation that is made when we take care of this space.
So, on May 19, please join with your brothers and sisters to put a "shine" on Zion. We will congregate at the church at 9:00 a.m. There will be a long and varied list of things to do. Something for everyone!
In Christ's Service,
Pastor Pete

CSEOA Spring Annual Meeting
Saturday, May 5th
First Congregational UCC in Huntington
One of the highlights of the day will be hearing the story of Bridges of Grace UCC in Charleston and the granting of full standing to this new church.
Another feature of the day will be having our partners from the Iglesia Misión Cristiana in Nicaragua participate in the meeting by using the technology of Skype. This is a way to lift up our partnership as we prepare to send another team in June on a Partnership Pilgrimage.
This is the first time the Partnership Pilgrimage will include members of Zion. In fact, we are the largest representative group on this year's trip. Mike and Sarah Newcomb and Pastor Pete and Emily Peterson will be traveling with the group. Passports are all in order, we have received our shots, and we're ready to go!
All are encouraged to attend this annual meeting!
