This Week at Zion
Resurrection Sunday
Jesus was not trapped in his tomb, but are we? There are stones in our lives which keep us trapped in our tombs, which keep us from reaching out to God in Christ. What are our stones? Who or what might remove the stones which impede our progress on the path toward holy living. At Jesus' tomb the stone had been rolled away. What is locking, not Jesus, but us in? What is blocking our way to freedom and new life? During our Easter Service this Sunday, we will explore these questions. Plan to be with us. All are welcome at Zion. No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome at Zion.

From t he Pastor's Desk
Many, many years ago, Jesus met with his disciples for a final meal; table fellowship. He shared with them a visible sign by which his disciples would know of God's presence in the days ahead; the eucharist, communion. A remembrance of Christ Jesus is found every time we partake of this meal at the Communion Table. Thursday evening we participated in this meal.
Last evening as we gathered at Zion for a meal in remembrance of that meal shared by Jesus and his disciples so many years ago, I was struck by several observations. As we dined on a simple meal of onion soup and bread, wine and juice, the real sustenance and nourishment was obtained in the conversation and laughter of brothers and sisters, young and old, men and women, girls and boys, coming together in holy communion and holy community to share with each other in Christ. It really was joyful to behold.
I also observed how much the Zion Christian community means to those who worship at Zion. One after another member shared with us their personal testimony of God's presence in their life. I was moved. I think everyone was moved by how the Spirit is alive at Zion and moving us to become the persons God has called upon us to be. In the tradition of the United Church of Christ we sense that God is still speaking, that God is changing lives and that we extend extravagant hospitality to all persons.
Those three sentiments were powerfully present last night and it is my hope our journey together will continue to bear testimony and witness to God's transformational impact upon our lives together.
Amen.
Pastor Pete

Family Promise Italian Dinner It is hard to imagine there was any larger group turning out for the annual Family Promise Italian dinner than Zion's group of "hungry pilgrims". Nearly twenty Zion members put their pocketbooks "where their hearts are" to come out and support this important fundraising event. As the model for Family Promise changes, we continue to support this meaningful program which is changing lives within this community. A big Shout Out to Mike Newcomb for arranging and promoting our participation in this year's dinner! |
