A Special Moment
Life is full of special moments. I had one of those special moments at Zion this week. I was working on one of the sanctuary lights with Robert Scheff. We were trying to remove the base of a light bulb which had snapped off in its socket. We arranged and rearranged the ladder to let us get close enough to firmly implant a potato around the remaining fixture allowing us to remove it.
We were successful! In our excitement, after replacing the lightbulb, we quietly assumed seats in pews at the rear of the sanctuary All the lights of the sanctuary had been turned off. We were in the dark; quietly, patiently, prayerfully waiting for the spotlight to come on which lights the Gethsemane scene in the stained glass window on the east wall of the sanctuary. Brian White recently had replaced the bulb which lights the scene. It hasn't been lighted in several years.
At approximately seven minutes before 9:00 it lighted the window. Excitedly we went outside to experience the window from the outside. What a sight! It is difficult to express, in words, the feeling and emotion of two Christian men in the silence of night, on a quiet street in a midwestern town, viewing an image of our Savior in stained glass in a representation of His last hours with us.
But that is the power and presence each of us feels when we have an experience which gives a special "connection" to our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.
If I was a songwriter of country music, maybe my next tune would be "I Found Jesus in a Stained Glass Window on Franklin Street". But, I am not a songwriter and that song will probably never be written. But a song was written on my heart this week in that window. What a blessing I could experience the power of that moment with a Christian brother of mine.
And He "set His face to go to Jerusalem".
Peace in Christ,
pastor pete
