This Week at Zion
There are places or circumstances where we feel particularly close to God. These locations have been described as "thin places", where the separation between the temporal and spiritual worlds is slight, is thin. In the biblical tradition, mountaintops were thin places and were often the site of revelatory experiences with the divine very present and very real. The transfiguration of Jesus Christ is one of the best known "mountaintop experiences". What happens when we come down from the mountain after feeling God's presence? We'll talk about this and more on Sunday at Zion, where all are welcome to worship with us.
Thank you for serving Zion this Sunday:
Liturgist: Cheryl Rogers

From the Pastor's Desk
Special Off erings What a spectacular gift we received at Zion this week. Actually, two gifts. Bob Dell, my fellow bass in the Zion choir for many years, has donated to Zion a beautiful watercolor depiction of The church. Bob painted the picture shortly after the elevator addition was completed about ten years ago. It is, quite simply, lovely. We are honoring a request from Bob and Bertie to incorporate a photographic rendering of the painting into our Zion 175th Anniversary Quilt.
In addition, Pastor Bertie has inquired whether we would be interested in receiving a donation of her series of the New Interpreters Bible. A hearty yes was my quick reply to her suggestion. Not only will this be an invaluable resource for the current and future pastors in sermon and worship preparation, any members who have an interest in serious biblical research will be aided in their quest with this valuable tool. There must be something about Zion that attracts this type of generous giving and benevolence. Yes, yes, there certainly is something very special about our church home, Zion.
In His Service, Pastor Pete

Local Mission Offering Next Sunday, February 26
Our ability to use the Local Mission Fund for local emergency assistance is limited by the funds we have on deposit in the fund. The pastor donates all receipts he has earned from performing funerals and weddings into this fund. Other donations are made by members of the congregation. These monies are used by the pastor to provide emergency relief for food, medicine, rent, gasoline and such other emergency requests as come to our attention. During the last year the fund was able to provide assistance to seven local families. There will be two Local Mission offerings this year; one on February 26 and one in late August.
Thank you, in advance, for supporting this mission!
