Capital Campaign Update |
Capital Campaign:
California Hospital Medical Center Foundation was recently awarded a $500,000 grant from The Ahmanson Foundation! To date, $12.7 million has been raised, reaching to 81% of the $15.7 million project budget.

Construction:
Currently, the construction team is adding the plumbing, A/C ducts, and electrical items that are fitted within the walls. The contractor says that the work is "rough in". As of April, the construction project is 50% complete. The roof is projected to be installed early next month. To view the progress pictorially, see our Facebook Capital Campaign photo album.
Hope Street Family Center is building a new 26,500 sf LEED certified building to expand its wellness and recreation services to children and families in the Downtown and Pico Union communities.

Students Give Back on Cesar Chavez Day
Camino Nuevo HS Girls Paint a Trike Track for Hope Street

On March 29, 2012 -- Cesar Chavez Day, five high school students volunteered from Camino Nuevo High School to paint a bike path for the students at the Early Care Education Center at Hope Street Family Center. Children will be able to drive their trikes and other foot powered vehicles on the new painted streets within the play yard. We are grateful for the dedicated student volunteers at Camino Nue vo High School, their teacher's supervision, and the leadership of their Vice Principal, Ms. Frazee. Volunteer projects like this can be arranged through the hospital's Director of Volunteers Tracy Nordbak, who can be reached at (213) 742-5707. Pictures illustrate the improved playground located within Mercy Housing Complex at 1500 S. Grand Avenue.

Baby2Baby Continues to Support Families
Donation of Stroller and Cribs Go to Families In Need

Baby2Baby is helping to provide the families at Hope Street Family Center with the critical, yet costly necessities for their children. On April 4, 2012, a mother of three received a new stroller and car seat helping the family to meet it's transportation needs with age appropriate materials. On April 24, 2012, five cribs were delivered to Hope Street families from a local movie studio, thanks to Baby2Baby; the families were very appreciative of these versatile beds for their children. Cribs went to parents from the Family Literacy, Early Head Start Home Visitation, and Pico Union Family Preservation programs. Hope Street Family Center is working with partner agencies like Baby2Baby to improve the lives of children and familes living in the downtown communities of Pico Union, South Park, and Historic South Los Angeles. |
