Wall WordingGreetings!

Thanks for taking a minute to catch up on the latest news.  In brief, Hope Street has received a national grant from Saucony; the Mayor read to our kids at the library; St. Max Church volunteers in Westlake gave from the heart; and moms are preparing to sell gifts for Mother's Day. Please feel free to contact me directly with any comments or questions at (213) 742-5869 or by email  [email protected].

Saucony Sponsors Run for Life Program

USC Resident Doctors Partner to Fight Obesity Epidemic

The Saucony Run for Good Foundation awarded Hope Street Family Center a $10,000 grant to support our Run for Life program.  A group of 50 students, parents, USC Family Practice Residency doctors, and staff are running for their health. Students are training for a 5K run scheduled for April 29, 2012 in downtown LA. They are running every Thursday at 5pm on a 1-2 mile track of sidewalks and cross-walks. The Saucony grant will support the cost of running equipment for the kids, race registration fees, nutritional snacks and other program expenses. We are grateful for the support of Saucony and their Run for Good Foundation.  To volunteer as a coach or to join us in our training runs, please contact Recreation Coordinator Sid Oxford at (213) 765-4083 or Director of Volunteers Tracy Nordbak at (213) 742-5707.

Mayor and TV Actress Read to Our Kids

LA Public Library Invites Hope Street Preschool to Read

Every week, the Hope Street preschool class from the Early Care Education Center visits the Downtown Public Library. On March 20, 2012, the library hosted a special story hour, which was sponsored by Cheerios and First Book, a national nonprofit supporting literacy development. The crowd of children loved the energy and playful voices of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa reading in Spanish and laughed with actress Jennie Garth (Kelly from Beverly Hills 90210) as she read the same book Hello Baby in English."We feel privileged to be invited back for this exciting event," comments Center Director Maricela Coronel. Pictured below are (1) Hope Street Teacher Rosa and two preschool students with the Mayor and Ms. Garth reading to the crowd and (2) the whole class with parents and staff.  To see more pictures, visit the Hope Street Facebook page.

Community Partnerships

Project Response: St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church

Thank you Joann Benson, Norm Lamarra, Project Response volunteers, and all your parishioners from St. Max Church in Westlake Village!  Hope Street Family Center has greatly benefitted from your generous donations of clothing, food, children's educational supplies, and cleaning supplies. Your reach to minister to the needs of the community extends far into the neighborhoods of downtown Los Angeles.  Thank you for caring for the needs of our children and families.
