Youth Go Ice Skating at Pershing Square

40 Students Invited to Lace up and Skate under the Stars

The children of Hope Street Family Center were invited by Pershing Square community organizers to ice skate for free on November 29, 2011, the opening night of the downtown ice rink.  Forty of our students, all between the ages of 6 and16, enjoyed the festivities with over 200 other community children.  Skates were sized for each child, Knotts Berry Farm distributed souvenir hats, and even Snoopy made a guest appearance. The event was a great experience for everyone. If you know of additional opportunities similar to this that you think our children might be able to participate in, please contact Development Associate Amy Costello or Recreation Coordinator Sid Oxford.

"It's a Small World" Event

Annual Winter Festival for Children and their Families

On December 9, 2011, Hope Street Family Center hosted the "It's A Small World" Event for over 300 children and their parents.  Families played games, ate together, and went home with complementary educational goodie bags.  The event gave families the opportunity to have fun and to interact with one another as a larger community.

Claudia & her family celebrate with their Family Service Coordinator Nora.

Special thanks to everyone who volunteered and supported this event.  Thanks to Rowdy Ridge for their support with the entertainment and activities. Thanks to Family Service Coordinators, Teachers, and Program Coordinators who led activities, painted faces, and supported parent-child interactions.  Thanks to the Planning Committee who handled all the logistics, food and supplies. A big thanks is due to Disneyland & Mickey's Attic and First Book Marketplace who provided the goodie bags and books for children to take home.  For those interested in assisting with planning events like this one next year, please contact Sherrie Segovia or Amy Costello.
