Groundbreaking Celebration
300 children, families and community partners celebrated together for this exciting event for Hope Street Family Center!

On April 1, 2011, the vacant lot on the corner of Venice Blvd and Hope St was transformed into a carnival-themed groundbreaking celebration. The site adjacent to the California Hospital Medical Center is where construction will begin this month for the new Hope Street Family Center wellness and recreation community center.

After-school youth center children were ready to begin the project that will include a children's play area and recreation sports court. Construction is estimated to take 400 days, less than 14 months.

City Councilwoman Jan Perry addressed the crowd.  Despite the 90 degree heat, guests listened intently under the shade of umbrellas provided by the CHMC Foundation.
The circus arts performers from the after-school Youth Center entertained the crowd with juggling, hula hoops and jump roping.
Youth Center students helped our guests to ceremonially break ground on the new health and wellness community center.  Guests pictured here include the Mayor's Chief of Staff Jeff Carr, CHMC Foundation Board Chairman Steve Needleman, City Councilwoman Jan Perry, CRA/LA Jenny Scanlin, CHMC President Gerald B. Clute, Senator Kevin de Leon, and First 5 LA Antonio Gallardo.

Thanks to everyone that attended!
