Our next meeting will be Wednesday, June 27th!
|
Our first meeting, to discuss Neil Gaiman's American Gods, was a great success! We had a spirited discussion about this weird, wonderful book, and we got to know each other. We're looking forward to an even bigger gathering in June! We've decided to read Aimee Bender's novel The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake for our next discussion.
From the Good Reads review:
"On the eve of her ninth birthday, unassuming Rose Edelstein bites into her mother's homemade lemon-chocolate cake and discovers she has a magical gift: she can taste her mother's emotions in the slice. To her horror, she finds that her cheerful mother tastes of despair. Soon, she's privy to the secret knowledge that most families keep hidden: her father's detachment, her mother's transgression, her brother's increasing retreat from the world. But there are some family secrets that even her cursed taste buds can't discern."
Paperback editions of Lemon Cake are available in the store (many copies are autographed!). This book is 15% off for Book Club members. Please print this notice and bring it with you to get your special discount!
We'll gather in the room above our store around 7 pm on Wednesday, June 27th. We'll have wine and snacks (I think cake will be necessary!) to complement the discussion.
If you plan on attending, and haven't already let me know, please email me or call me (646.703.4996) to RSVP.
