Hello everyone!
Tonight and tomorrow, it's Stroll and Savor, all along Second Street in Belmont Shore! We hope you'll wander up and down Second with us, tasting all the delicious foods from the fabulous restaurants and specialty shops along our street. And there are treats for four-footed friends, too, as well as live music to whet your appetite. Also this coming weekend, following Stroll&Savor, 2nd Street will be lined with tables and racks of good bargains for the annual Spring Sidewalk Sale! Apostrophe Books will be offering some great deals- we look forward to seeing you Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!
Tonight is also the very first meeting of our Book Club for adults! We will be discussing Neil Gaiman's American Gods, and we will pick the book for next month's meeting. Be sure to keep an eye on the newsletters or email us for details about future meetings!
Our evening with Press-Telegram columnist Tim Grobaty was a special night -- our little store was packed full of fans and friends of Tim's, and we were honored to host such a fun, festive crowd. We have signed copies of his Long Beach Chronicles for sale, so if you missed this event, don't miss out on a special edition of his wonderful book. May is Bike Month! There are lots of really great bicycle-related events all month long, all over Long Beach. We've included just a few in this newsletter.  Stroll & Savor May 16th and 17th
Stroll & Savor, the "Taste of Belmont Shore," is a two-night event every May, June, July, and August. Tonight and tomorrow, we will kick off this tasty summer tradition from 5:30p to 9:00pm.
There will be live local entertainment on Corona & 2nd street: performing tonight is Dad Company, and tomorrow will be Long Beach Blues Army.
Tickets are sold in front of Chase Bank each night of the event -- just $10 for a book of 12 tickets.

An Evening with Tim Grobaty
Longtime Press-Telegram columnist Tim Grobaty has written a compelling account of the history of Long Beach, a book that encompasses the city's founding in 1888 to its near-destruction in the earthquake of 1933.
Our night with Tim was great fun, full of memorable stories and local celebrities. In attendance were former governor George Deukmejian, LA Times food editor Russ Parsons, the novelist Tyler Dilts, local activist Justin Rudd, and next-door restaurateur Lisa Ramelow.
We have copies of Long Beach Chronicles, signed by Tim, plus lots of other wonderful Long Beach books, on sale every day for 10% off, at Apostrophe Books!

 Secret Door Club
New Books!
Our young adult book club, the Secret Door Club, has selected two new books! We will be meeting again at 4 pm on May 29th, and we will be discussing two books in two groups: Group 1 will be discussing the second book in the Septimus Heap series, Flyte. Please read chapters 1 to 14 to prepare for our meeting.  Group 2 will be discussing Gary Paulsen's novel Hatchet. Please read chapters 1 to 9 ro prepare for our meeting. This will be a BYOS meeting -- be sure to bring something to munch on . . . and if you're bringing something particularly yummy, bring enough to share!

 Bike Long Beach! May is National Bike Month!
Take care of your self and your city by riding your bike! All throughout May, there are tons of fun events to encourage residents to explore the very bike-friendly city of Long Beach.
May 17th is Bike to Work Day! There will be pit stops at CSULB and at Long Beach City Hall Civic Center Plaza for coffee, breakfast to go, freebies and bike safety checks! And May 20th is Kidical Mass, a day for the whole family to take a bike ride in Los Cerritos Park. Kids receive free ice cream at the finish line! Ride your bike to our store on a Saturday in May to receive a special discount!

 Ride for Reading Donate books for Santiago Elementary If you're already riding for you, why not Ride for Reading, too!
Apostrophe Books has teamed up with Ride For Reading to bring books to the children of Santiago Elementary School. Our goal is to give a book for every child to take home, and to have enough books left over for their library!
