Hello Everyone! It's March, and that means we're in the midst of the annual Long Beach Reads One Book! This year, we're reading Isabel Allende's Zorro, and we are very excited about all the great events planned to celebrate this thrilling novel. We're REALLY excited about March 22nd, when Isabel Allende will join us at the Long Beach Terrace Theater! See below for details!
Celebrate the first day of Spring with the Very Hungry Caterpillar! March 20th is Very Hungry Caterpillar Day, and we will have all of Eric Carle's wonderful books on sale in our store! And on Saturday April 7th, the Caterpillar will be visiting Apostrophe for a very special story time! Don't miss it!
March 24th is Belmont Shore's Chocolate Festival! We'll be participating -- see below for details!
The Secret Door Club, our book club for preteens, is such a great success that we'd like to launch a club for adults. If you're interested in joining, email us with book/meeting suggestions, and watch our newsletters for more info!
Have you found our book blog? One of our booksellers, Patti, has joined the blogging team at the Belmont Shore-Naples Patch! Details and a link to her reviews are below.
We have FREE PARKING in the lot behind Apostrophe Books! Parking on Second Street can be a challenge, and the meters can be an expensive hassle -- check out our free parking for a more pleasant shopping experience!
If you haven't already signed up, ask about our Frequent Buyer's Club the next time you're in the store. It's completely free to join, and the only information we need is your name: our system keeps track of your spending, and once you reach $100, you get a coupon for $5 off your next purchase! Live too far from Long Beach to visit our store? You can support us online! Visit www.apostrophebooks.net to buy books online, and like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to get all of our updates! Happy reading! Long Beach Reads One Book
Zorro, by Isabel Allende
Every year, the Long Beach Public Library sponsors a One Book, city-wide reading event. Long Beach Reads One Book encourages everyone in the city to read the same book, and to meet to discuss it in a variety of venues and formats. There will be activities geared for every reading level (elementary school students as well as high school and college students), plus events intended to include senior citizens and book clubs.
Isabel Allende's retelling of the Zorro legend is the perfect book for a city-wide read: it is a page turner with something for everyone. Set in California, the Caribbean, New Orleans, and Spain, this historical novel is jam-packed with adventure, intrigue, and romance. Allende's trademark wit, beautiful prose, and unforgettable characters are sure to have the whole city talking!
Thursday, March 22, at 7 pm, please join us as we welcome Isabel Allende at the Long Beach Terrace Theater! Tickets are $25 a person (parking is included!), and must be purchased in advance. Click here to buy your tickets!
We will be selling Isabel Allende books at this special event! The first 200 buyers will receive a complimentary book plate, pre-signed by Isabel, to affix inside their purchase.
The full events calendar for Long Beach Reads One Book is here.
Apostrophe Books has copies of Zorro (in English and in Spanish) on sale every day for 10%! |

 New Book Blog!
Last September, Patti Varol joined our team of booksellers at Apostrophe Books. Patti, who is also a freelance writer and editor, has a diverse background and a wide variety of interests and specialties, ranging from crossword puzzles to yoga. We are thrilled to announce that she is now blogging about books in the Belmont Shore-Naples Patch! Patti's latest post, an essay introducing the seven writers honored at last weekend's Literary Women Festival, can be found here. Be sure to register with the Patch so you can follow Patti's blog and to keep up with all the latest news on the Shore! |
 Interview with Poet Ivana Dostanic
Poet Ivana Dostanic, who visited Apostrophe Books for a book signing and poetry reading last December, has been profiled in Latino Weekly Review. She discusses the challenges of being a bilingual poet and the emotions, stirred up by her emigration to the United States, that led her to begin writing poetry.
We enjoyed our evening of poetry with Ivana, and we hope to have her back soon! |
