Hello Everyone!

We're still all decked out in pink and red at Apostrophe Books this Valentine's week!  Warm thanks to everyone who shared the love and came to the store to find that special something for that special someone.

Our handmade cards were a big hit, and no wonder -- they are made here in Long Beach, and they are truly unique.   And we have a big selection of these beautiful handmade cards for all occasions, so remember to come back when you've got a birthday or anniversary to honor!

Our early-February events were all a big success -- make sure you scroll down to see all the details!  On February 4th, we had a blast launching our dear friend Priscilla Maltbie's new book, Bambino and Mr. Twain.  And on February 7th, we held the very first meeting of our Pre-Teen Book Club.  We were thrilled to be the bookseller at another great LBPLF event, an afternoon with novelist Lisa See, on February 11th.

Coming up on February 25th, Medium Geof Jowett will be holding an event in our upstairs reading room.  Be sure to get all the details below!

Did you know that there is FREE PARKING in the lot behind Apostrophe Books?  Parking on Second Street can be a challenge, and the meters can be an expensive hassle -- check out our free parking for a more pleasant shopping experience!

If you haven't already signed up, ask about our Frequent Buyer's Club the next time you're in the store.  It's completely free to join, and the only information we need is your name: our system keeps track of your spending, and once you reach $100, you get a coupon for $5 off your next purchase!

Students and teachers!  Did you know that we offer textbooks on our website, to rent or to buy?  Visit www.apostrophebooks.net to pick up your text today.  You can also bring your reading list in to us at the store, and we will be happy to help you find all the books you need for class or for a research project.

Happy reading!

Book Launch!
P.I. Maltbie's Bambino and Mr. Twain

Long Beach author Priscilla "P.I" Maltbie launched her latest delightful children's book, Bambino and Mr. Twain, at our store on February 4th.

In each of her books, Priscilla portrays historical figures in very private, very human moments:  Claude Monet longs for his painting to captivate art critics as much as trains captivate his young son; a finicky cat inspires Picasso to move from his Blue Period to his Rose Period; and in this latest, a stubborn cat keeps Mark Twain company as he grieves for his late wife.  Publisher's Weekly calls Bambino and Mr. Twain "unexpectedly moving."  Priscilla's stories are rich with grace, wry humor, and, of course, mischievous cats.

It was a great day, with a terrific turnout, and we sold out of Bambino and some of Priscilla's other books!  We have more copies on hand now -- some of them are autographed -- on sale every day at 10% off!

Pre-Teen Book Club
Next Meeting: February 21st at 4pm

Our very first meeting of the Pre-Teen Book Club was a huge success!

Our group has chosen to read the first book in Angie Sages' Septimus Heap series, Magyk.  Book club members can purchase the book at a 15% discount (don't forget to bring your membership card!).  The Bay Shore Library also has two copies available.

The Club will meet in our upstairs room (up the stairs behind the secret door) every other Tuesday, and our next meeting will be February 21st.  At this meeting, we'll be discussing the first four chapters of Magyk, and we'll all be pretending we are one of the characters from the book.  Costumes and props are optional!  We are also going to brainstorm to choose a name for our Club.

It will be a "snackluck" gathering (potluck, but with snacks),
so everyone will bring something to munch on and share.

If you are interested in joining us, we still have room for a few more members!  Please call (562.438.7950) or stop in the store to sign up!  You'll also need parental permission to join.

Reading with Novelist Lisa See
February 11, Long Beach Public Library

Lisa See, author of the beautiful novels Shanghai Girls and Peony in Love, joined us at the 2012 Blanche Collins Forum on Saturday, February 11th, at the Long Beach Main Library Auditorium.  Lisa delighted us with a reading from her latest novel, Dreams of Joy, which continues the story of sisters Pearl and May in Shanghai Girls.   Lisa also shared stories about the creation of the books and the characters, and stayed afterward to sign copies and meet fans.  Lisa is warm and funny, friendly and charming, and we are completely smitten with her!  We hope she comes back to visit us very soon.

If you missed this event last weekend, Lisa will be at the San Pedro Public Library this coming Sunday, the 19th of February.  Details and registration info can be found here.  Registration is $15 and includes a complimentary paperback copy of Dreams of Joy.

Lisa was also interviewed recently on KPCC's Off-Ramp.  Click here to listen -- you will be as charmed by her as we are!

All of Lisa See's books are available at 10% off every day at Apostrophe Books.  We have many signed copies, but they won't last, so hurry in to get yours today!

Workshop with Medium Geof Jowett
Channeling Your Inner Self: February 25th

Geof Jowett is an intuitive medium, educator,  and writer. It is his passion to promote the expansion of our consciousness, the continuity of life, the laws of nature, intuition and mediumship so that we may heal and discover a greater sense of contentment, joy and peace and perpetuate love.

Medium Geof will be hosting a workshop, "Channeling Your Inner Self To Enhance Your Intuitive Abilities," in our upstairs reading room on Saturday, February 25th.  The workshop will run from 10 am to 1:30 pm; tuition is $50 per person.

Channeling is the reception and sharing of creative energy.  This energy is what we need to express our higher selves, perhaps to write, sing, garden, cook, teach, coach or to be a parent. This workshop, through discussion and interactive exercises, will give you tools to develop your intuitive abilities, to help you channel inspiration and guidance.

Contact Geof (562.355.0525) or stop by the store to register for this workshop. Payment will be due the day of the workshop.
