Hello Everyone!
December is starting out as busy as November ended!
Last weekend, our visit with the Grinch was a great success! Kids of all ages crowded the store to have their picture taken with the loveable grouch, and our story time on Saturday was delightful. We've included some pictures in this week's newsletter -- make sure you check them out!
Lots going on in the store and around Long Beach this weekend, too! Friday night, we'll be the bookseller for another wonderful Booked event with the Long Beach Public Library Foundation. And Saturday is Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day! We have books for every reading level and every interest.
You definitely don't want to miss Saturday evening, when we host a poetry reading in our brand new reading room above the store! Serbian-American poet Ivy Dee has planned a very special poetry experience, the perfect way to christen the new space.
And we'll be joining Father Greg Boyle at his talk at the Main Branch of the Long Beach Public Library on December 10th. More details will follow in this and upcoming newsletters -- mark your calendars and stay tuned!

Booked: A Simple Supper for Literary Lovers
Literary Social with Edward Humes, December 2nd
We are thrilled to be the bookseller at another special event hosted by the Long Beach Public Library Foundation. The LBPL Foundation, together with the law firm Keesal, Young & Logan, have planned a very special literary social from 6 pm to 8:30 pm this Friday, December 2nd. Pulitzer-Prize winning author Edward Humes will be in attendance to share in lively conversation and good food and drink. The supper will be held at the Keesal, Young & Logan offices in downtown Long Beach. Parking will be free for this event. Reservations are required. Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day
Saturday, December 3rd
Our customers are always telling us how lucky they feel to have a small independent bookstore like ours in the neighborhood. We love our store, too, and we're hoping to stay put for a long time. One way to ensure stores like Apostrophe can last is to teach your kids to love small bookstores, too. Take your child to a bookstore this Saturday! Poetry Reading
Ivy Dee - December 3rd
Long Beach poet Ivy Dee (née Ivana Dostanic) is a new literary voice on the South Bay shores. Born in Belgrade, Ms. Dee embraces both her Serbian background and her American home, and she bridges the two cultures with her poetry. Her first collection of poetry, Blood and a Drop of Milk, debuted in Serbia to great critical acclaim; her second book, a collection of poetry for children, World of Butterflies and Stars, was also well-received. Ms. Dee is a member of the Writers Guild of Serbia. She lives in Long Beach with her husband and two young daughters. Serbian-American actress Zeljka Gortinski will present Ivy Dee's poetry at Apostrophe Books on Saturday, December 3rd. We're very excited to be unveiling our new upstairs reading and events room at this event -- hope to see you there!  |

An Afternoon with Father Gregory Boyle
December 10th, 2 pm
Father Greg Boyle, founder of Homeboy Industries and author of Tattoos on the Heart, will be speaking and signing copies of his book at the Main Library in Long Beach on December 10th at 2 pm. His marvelous and inspirational book is 10% off at Apostrophe Books, and will also be available for purchase at this event.
