Book Signing with Gerrie Schipske
November 19, 2 pm to 4 pm
Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske will be signing copies of her newest book, Early Long Beach, at Apostrophe Books this Saturday, November 19th. A Long Beach native, the councilwoman has written two other books about her home city, Rosie the Riveter in Long Beach and Early Aviation in Long Beach. All three books will be available for purchase and signing on Saturday. A pictorial history, Early Long Beach traces the growth of Long Beach from a small township of railroad speculators in the 1880s into the oil-rich city that supported the war effort of the late 1930s and '40s. For most of its early history, Long Beach's eight miles of oceanfront provided a resort area, a landing strip for early aviators, a fishing industry, a port for commerce and shipbuilding, and a WWI naval base. And then, in 1921, oil was discovered, and Long Beach was forever changed. Councilwoman Schipske represents the 5th Council District in east side Long Beach. As a writer, as a nurse practitioner, as an attorney, and as an elected official, the councilwoman has a fascinating and diverse career of community service. We are delighted that she has chosen Apostrophe Books to sign her latest book about our favorite city!
