Hello Everyone!

We had some help saying good-bye to summer at Apostrophe Books!

Many local authors stopped by and visited with us, and we have signed copies of their books available in the store.  Even if you missed meeting them, you don't want to miss out on your own autographed copies of their books!  Pick up Hoodwinked, the award-winning collection by poet David Hernandez. For a special gift for a little reader, we have  signed copies of the beautifully written and illustrated Picasso and Minou by Long Beach's own P.I. Maltbie.  And for older kids, we have Lee Wardlaw's infectious, delightful, 101 Ways to Bug Your Friends and Enemies!

Our very own Man in the Yellow Hat, Sam, helped us say good-bye to summer with a very fun Curious George storytime last Saturday afternoon.  Kids of all ages had a blast "monkeying" around with Sam!  Be sure to scroll down and see the pictures!

And we said good-bye to our old register and hello to a computerized inventory-tracking system.  The transition has gone very smoothly, and we are thrilled with how much easier it is to find and order books for our customers.  Most of all, we are very excited that this system allowed us to create our Frequent Buyer's Club

If you haven't already signed up, ask about the FBC the next time you're in the store.  It's completely free to join, and the only information we need is your name: our system keeps track of your spending, and once you reach $100, you get a coupon for $5 off your next purchase!

Saying good-bye to summer means saying hello to school!  Did you know that we offer textbooks (to buy or to rent!) on our website?  Head over to www.apostrophebooks.net and order yours today!  Free shipping on all orders over $20!

Teachers and students, don't miss our Back-to-School coupon at the end of this newsletter!  20% off your entire purchase with a valid school ID!

Happy Autumn!  Happy reading!

Curiosity Day
A Visit from The Man in the Yellow Hat....
Saturday, September 17th was Curiosity Day at Apostrophe Books!  Curious Little Readers received balloons and a goody bag stuffed with stickers, temporary tattoos, puzzles . . . and a banana, of course!  And all Curious George books were 50% off, much to the delight of Curious Parents!

Best of all, Curious Little Readers were treated to storytime with our very own Man in the Yellow Hat, Sam!  We hope you come back very soon, Sam!

Wish List
Another way to help LBPL!

The City of Long Beach has had to make some very deep budget cuts.  The already inadequate book budget for LBPL has been made even smaller, but there is a way we can help.

The library has a Wish List of books they need to add to their collection.  Click here to see the list, and come in to Apostrophe to buy the books!  We will give you an additional 5% off (for most books, this means 15% off the cover price) if you donate the book to the Long Beach library!

Note that the link is to an Amazon Wish List... please remember to browse global and buy local!

Book Review

In 1964, Jacqueline Kennedy sat down with the historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr., and discussed her life with John F. Kennedy. With startling honesty, Mrs. Kennedy presented details about her marriage, her husband's presidency, and the people and events who shaped and influenced her marriage and his presidency. Her candor in these conversations is as touching as it is surprising: these recordings by the famously private Mrs. Kennedy were made only a few months after her husband was assassinated.

To commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of President Kennedy's first year in office, Caroline Kennedy and the Kennedy family have restored these conversations and released them as a book and CD collection, "Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life with John F. Kennedy." The collection, introduced and annotated by historian Michael Beschloss, makes compelling listening and fascinating reading.

We are delighted to offer "Historic Conversations" at 10% off at Apostrophe Books!
