Hello Everyone!
Our first author event of 2011 was wonderful! Both Priscilla and Lee sold and autographed many copies of their books: WON TON and PICASSO AND MINOU.
We thank them both for understanding and being so good natured about moving our autographing party inside when the rains came! ( We normally have our author signings out on our front porch - as you can see by the photo above)
Also a big thank you to all of you that came to support another one of our great author book signings - we appreciate it!
We're always working on scheduling more authors for our Sat. afternoon book signings. Please be sure to scroll down and take a look at the authors/illustrators we have scheduled so far this year ..be sure to mark your calendars!!
Sincerely,
Valerie and Lisa

Please join us this Saturday, March 12th from 3-4pm and meet
STEVE LOPEZ!
Steve Lopez is a columnist for the Los Angeles Times. He is the author of The Soloist, The Sunday Macaroni Club, Third and Indiana, and Dreams & Schemes. He has been an editor-at-large for Time magazine and has also written for the Philadelphia Inquirer. He lives in Los Angeles.
Not since Jack Smith has the Los Angeles Times had a columnist who evoked life in L.A. so vividly, but where Smith wrote of a homogeneous city, Lopez sees a fragmented megalopolis --L.A. Magazine
Mixing hilarious trademark jabs at deserving politicians with superb storytelling, Lopez has brought urban-advocacy traditions to Los Angeles. --The American Society of Newspaper Editors |

DREAMS AND SCHEMES: My Decade of Fun in the Sun is a collection of Lopez's most controversial, irreverent, trouble-making, and heart-warming columns. He writes through the eyes of the region and its people, unflinchingly taking on the movers and shakers, and poking about in places where other reporters wouldn't dare go. This collection offers an entertaining and insightful look into the workings of modern-day life that will delight not only people who know the players and locations well, but will resonate with people anywhere because people, politics, and situation that catch Lopez's eye are universal. Whether read straight through, read at random, or read aloud to share with someone, the columns will amuse and enlighten all readers . |

Staff Pick by Kelsey
The Lost Symbol Illustrated Edition by Dan Brown. Dan Brown author of the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons latest work is The Lost Symbol. Set right here on American soil in Washington D.C., The Lost Symbol is the story of Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon trying to solve yet another crazy mystery he had no intention of getting himself involved in. It's fast paced and full of lore and symbols and Masons. What makes this version really cool is that it's illustrated. When the Dan Brown describes what the Rotunda of the Capitol Building looks like there's a picture right there. No more Googling every other work of art or place that's mentioned. I found the book to be really interesting and full of all the twists and turns you expect of a Dan Brown novel, but with the illustrations it makes it so much more enjoyable. |
