 Thank You!

The Abigail Iris signing with Lisa and Suzanne was super-fun for all ages.  We're sorry if you missed it, and if you didn't, then we hope you enjoyed yourself, and went home with a balloon, and some stickers!  Plus, for those of you who bought a book, we donated $1 to Seal Beach Animal Care Center (The lady at the Farmers Maket) in your name(s).  Thanks to all of you, there was $25 to donate!
 I Hate to Cook!

Jo Bracken signed the 50th anniversary edition of her mom's I HATE TO COOK BOOK.  This was a big hit with the Stroll & Savor passers-by.  Such a big hit, that we completely sold out of her book!  Hope you managed to squeeze in and get a copy, if not we bought some more from Jo, had her sign them, and they're now available at our store!  Happy cooking! ;)

 A Pincess Found

As a biracial child adopted into a nurturing white middle-class family in West Virginia, Sarah Culberson experienced warmth, stability and personal fulfillment while growing up. Like most adopted children, Culberson had questions about her biological roots, and as a biracial child dealt with the additional emotional burden of negotiating the world of racial identity. After being questioned by a teacher as to why she wore blue contact lenses, a stunned and embarrassed Culberson begins the journey to find-and embrace-her roots. Her story quickly becomes extraordinary, as she discovers her father is not just alive and living in Africa, but is part of African royalty, making her an African princess. This entertaining, informative, inspiring memoir is told through two narratives taken up in alternating chapters: one details Culberson's story of growing up, going off to college, and ultimately establishing a life for herself in the arts; the other recounts her father's incredible story of falling in love with Culberson's American mother, his struggle to keep his family alive during Sierra Leon's brutal civil war, and the remarkable reunion of father and daughter.

The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel (series) by Michael Scott

This series (The Alchemyst, The Magician, The Sorceress, and The Necromancer, so far) is fun, fast paced, and perfect for any reader who has finished Harry Potter and is wondering what to move onto next. Set in moderen day, Josh and Sophie are the twins of legend who can save the world from the Dark Elders. Nicholas Flamel is in possession of the recipe for eternal life and the protector of the Codex. Filled with immortal beings and a battle for control of the world between ancient forces, this books takes stories and characters from history and gives them an alternate twist. (Recommended for grades 6-9, but also equally rad for adults.)-Kelsey
