 ABOUT THE ARTIST

2 BenbdalllahMarouan Benabdallah (son of a Moroccan physicist father and a Hungarian musician mother) was born in Morocco in 1982 and had his first piano lessons when he was 4. He received his later training at the Béla Bartók Conservatory and the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest. Marouan began his international career in 2003 following his successes at both the Hungarian Radio Piano Competition and the International Piano Competition "Premi Principat d'Andorra." Recitals and concerto performances followed in Canada, France, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, India, China, and Morocco. He made his U.S. recital debut at Carnegie Hall on May 26, 2011 as part of the French Institute Alliance Française's annual World Nomads festival. Anthony Tommasini wrote in his New York Times review of the concert: "He played with rich colorings and flair, and brought tenderness to the lyrical musings and vigor to the bursts of chords and dizzying passagework."

Mr. Benabdallah's 2011 season is generously supported by OCP (Office chérifien des phosphates), the Moroccan Phosphates Company.
