As 2011 unfolds, pianist Wu Han, violinist Philip Setzer, and cellist David Finckel are scheduled to resume touring the Piano Trios of Franz Schubert. Over a span of two consecutive seasons, from 2009-2011, the musicians will have appeared in 25 different cities in a remarkable array of chamber music venues across the United States. This tour, and their acclaimed recording on the ArtistLed label, is the fruit of a lifelong fascination, shared between the three artists, with the musical genius of Franz Schubert. The trio shares a long and joyous history of performing the chamber music of Schubert throughout the world's concert stages, including Philip Setzer and David Finckel's performances and recordings as colleagues in the Emerson String Quartet.
This season David Finckel and Wu Han are also touring a special program that juxtaposes the music of Beethoven and Brahms. The latter was widely regarded as the apparent heir to Beethoven's legacy, and the duo's program illuminates the musical terrain that Brahms was to navigate as he became the Beethoven of his day. Additionally, David and Wu Han will be performing Beethoven's complete works for cello and piano as well as a program featuring works by Franck, Jalbert, Schumann, and Bach.
