A Season of Light ~ A Rare Celestial Event

What have you been doing in the dark?
Are you ready to come into the light?

Have you taken advantage of these long, dark days and allowed the soil of your soul to lay fallow, rejuvenating, resting, ready to receive the seeds of rebirth?  We are soon coming to the shortest day of the year (December 21st) and will then begin the journey toward lengthening days, more light, more warmth, and new growth.

We have an opportunity this year to experience a rare alignment of several celestial bodies, galaxies,  and lunar events...  December 21,2010 will bring together the full moon, the Winter Solstice, and a total lunar eclipse.  Someone told us that this won't happen again for another 130 years.

So, plan to stay up late, go outside and let the Heavens fill you with Light. We here at The Gathering Inn wish you a light-filled Holiday Season.

Memorial Meditation Garden

Our lovely Meditation Garden has been completed.  As you recall, the intent of this space is for each of us to donate funds toward its creation in memory of a woman who has died or in the name of a woman still in our life whom we want to honor.  A plaque with those names will be installed on the Garden wall.

Thanks to Bob Tambeau and Les Lambert for the final project of creating the winding brick walkway which meanders past the flower garden and the living sculpture of the firebush branches down into the sanctuary of the Meditation seating space.  (Thanks also to Josh Cole for a great job repairing our pergolas after they were blown down in a strong windstorm.)

Ironically, just as we got all our sculptures, seats, gongs, and flowers in place, it was time to take it all in for the winter.  So, in the spring we are planning a day to restore the Memorial Meditation Garden to its full beauty and at the same time, read the names of the women to whom the garden is dedicated.

The deadline for your tax deductible donations in memory or honor of your loved one is February 28, 2011.  Please make checks payable to The Gathering Inn and mail them with your name, address and phone number and the name of the woman to be honored.  Put Memorial Garden on the memo line.

We are so pleased to be able to offer this quiet space for your contemplative meditation.  We trust you will have wonderful encounters with the natural and sacred worlds.

Our Thanks

Thank you to the Facilities Team (Audrey Kracke-Lambert, Heather DePasquale, and Deb Weldon) for clearing out the garage so we can actually park two cars and for putting the yard and gardens to bed for the winter, and to Cheryl Thompson for cleaning out and organizing the storage space in the barn.  Herculean tasks, all of it.  Thank you so much!

Temple Grandin

"It doesn't take long to see that Temple Grandin, the main character in this eponymous HBO movie, is, well, different--she (in the person of Claire Danes, who plays her) tells us before the credits start that she's "not like other people." But "different" is not "less." Indeed, Grandin, who is now in her 60s, has accomplished a good deal more than a great many "normal" folks, let alone others afflicted with the autism that Grandin overcame on her way to earning a doctorate and becoming a bestselling author and a pioneer in the humane treatment of livestock. It wasn't easy. Captivating, compelling, and thoroughly entertaining, Temple Grandin is highly recommended." --Sam Graham

ceremonySeason of Light Spiral Ceremony

Sunday, December 5, 5:00 - 7:00 PM

You must register no later than Friday, December 3rd so that we can have enough candles for everyone.

As we wind our way in and out of the spiral of pine boughs, sea shells, bittersweet, and pine cones, light our candle from the center flame, and place our light on the path, we will each center ourselves on what is really important about this holiday season, find the inner peace to carry us calmly through the "holiday crazies", and to celebrate all those places in our lives where our inner light is growing and spreading to the world around us.

This is a free event but we would appreciate a small donation if you can to offset the costs.  Call 978-820-1139 or email info@gatheringinn.org to register.

If you can't be there by the start time of 6:30, then come anyway and just bring a dessert.

"Women, Food and God:
An Unexpected Path to Almost Everything"
by Geneen Roth

"Your relationship with food, no matter how conflicted, is the doorway to freedom, says Roth. What you most want to get rid of is itself the doorway to what you want most: the demystification of weight loss and the luminous presence that so many of us call "God."

Packed with revelations on every page, this book is a knock-your-socks-off ride to a deeply fulfilling relationship with food, your body...and almost everything else. Women, Food and God is, quite simply, a guide for life."

OUR RATES ARE GOING UP!

It was inevitable. The Inn has held it rates steady for almost three years! But at the start of 2011, our rates will be going up. This might be the perfect time to plan a pre-holiday getaway to rejuvenate yourself before the craziness begins. (And to help you out, check out the coupon at the bottom of our newsletter!)  And while you are at it, think about adding a relaxing massage to your retreat time.

If you book a retreat by December 15, 2010 and that retreat is completed before the end of March 2011, you can use the coupon below and take 20% off.  At the time of your booking, you will need to pay a non-refundable deposit equal to 50% of your retreat cost.  The balance can be paid upon arrival.  But space is limited, so, don't wait much longer.

Call for our end-of-the-year pricing for small groups and non-profits.
