November News
November 2, 2010
Greetings!

Did you feel the chill in the air this morning?

What thoughts does a little nip in the air stir up for you? Snow? (Our snowshoeing trip is coming again.) Cleaning out the fireplace? (Or cleaning out old thoughts?) Shopping for the gift-giving season? (How about a gift certificate?)

Well, here at the Inn, we're thinking about Spring. And we're running late! We're working on our late Winter and Spring retreat and workshop schedule and we'd like your input. Is there a topic or an interest that you'd like to see on our calendar? Give us a call at (978-820-1139) or send us an email. We'd love to hear from you!

If you aren't looking that far ahead, we've got a few things coming up sooner that will hopefully get you thinking in new directions. We'll be discussing faith again (because there's so much to explore!), reading about another person's (a man's!) journey to his center, watching several thought-provoking movies and participating in a new ceremony honoring the diverse traditions of the upcoming season.

Hope to see you at the Inn soon!

AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

by  Merry Cole

Carolyn L. Thomas, in her article "An Attitude of Gratitude", in the Nov/Dec issue of Unity Magazine, says:  "Choosing to notice life's blessings instead of focusing on life's annoyances begins with conscious effort."

On Thanksgiving Day, it will be easy to give thanks for those things in life we see as blessings and joys.  Is it just as easy to give thanks for the challenges and sorrows?  Is that a crazy, unreasonable idea?  That we can be thankful for our difficulties? Or does it make some sense in the larger life of the universe?  I think it does.  (Read more...)

"Beachcombing at Miramar

The Quest for an Authentic Life"
by Richard Bode
To become a beachcomber and be able to walk the beach at leisure is a dream of many. Bode leaves a job from which he was deriving no personal satisfaction and a wife of 30 years to become a beachcomber. He gets a beach house at Miramar Beach, California, and uses his time walking the beach and ruminating about sand dollars, jellyfish, and the mist and tide in his self-described journey to the center of himself.

The days and nights of irregular and random beachcombing allow him to reflect on who he is, who he wants to be, and what it means to be human. This striving for an authentic life makes this book sensitive and worthwhile reading. ~ David Schau, Library Journal

ceremonySeason of Light Spiral Ceremony

Sunday, December 5, 5:00 - 7:00 PM

We are offering a lovely candle-lighting, music-supported, ceremony to mark the seasons of Hanukah, Advent, Winter Solstice as a time of lighting the way. It is a lovely, contemplative way to connect with Spirit to remind us of what it is all about.

The studio will be decorated with beautiful pine boughs, sea shells, rocks, pine cones, and flowers.  A spiral of pine branches will be laid out on the studio floor (similar to a labyrinth) and each person will have a time to walk the spiral into a center light, light her individual candle, and on the way out, choose a place to set her candle down along the path.  As more and more of us spiral in and out, the light grows until the whole is filled with light and each of us experiences bringing our star of light into the world.

Registration is required by phone or email to the Inn.  A suggested donation of $5.00 would be appreciated but not necessary.
