STC Provides Onsite EHS Support
For over two years, STC has provided Thoratec Corporation with EHS compliance support at its Pleasanton, California site. Thoratec, a medical device manufacturer, does not currently have EHS staff at this site, so STC performs all the tasks that would be performed by in-house staff, including permitting, training, incident investigation, area inspections and regulatory reporting. STC has been actively involved in Thoratec's EHS annual strategic planning and objective setting efforts and also has worked with site staff on identifying, tracking and implementing corrective and preventive actions. STC helped the site implement an online Material Safety Data Sheet program and maintains a site EHS website. Through its support for key groups including Facilities, Human Resources and the site Safety Committee, STC has been able to contribute to Thoratec's continuous improvement of its EHS program.

STC Educational Webinar Series 2010 Summary of 2009 Updates to NFPA and IFC Fire Codes Mr. Russell Boesch, CPEA, CHMM May 5, 2010 2:00 PM EDT/11:00 AM PDT Free! All are welcome. State and local fire codes are commonly based on one of two primary consensus codes for fire prevention: the National Fire Protection Association's NFPA 1 Fire Code; or the International Code Council's International Fire Code. These codes regulate much more than building structures or fire extinguishing systems; they also govern the safe storage and handling of hazardous materials, flammable and combustible liquids, compressed gasses, lead-acid battery systems, and cryogenic materials, including requirements for containers, tanks, and piping; labeling and signage; and secondary containment. In many cases, the fire codes are significantly more detailed and stringent than federal or state OSHA regulations. Each of the model codes is updated on a triennial basis, the most recent update occurring in 2009. Although there is typically a lag time for state and local jurisdictions to incorporate the new provisions, now is the time for EHS managers and auditors to learn how the changes to these model codes may affect your operations. Join us for a webinar that explores the significant changes made to NFPA and IFC codes in 2009. Our presenter will be Mr. Russell Boesch, CPEA, CHMM, the primary author of the Essential Guide to Fire Code Management of Hazardous Materials published by Specialty Technical Publishers of Vancouver, B.C.
Space is limited; reserve your Webinar seat now at: https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/702065235
