2012 TriColumbia Iron Girl Columbia Dress Rehearsal
When: July 28, 2012 at 5:45 am - 10:00 am Where: Centennial Lake, Centennial Park, 10000 Clarksville Pike (Rt. 108), Ellicott City, MD 21043, Swim Finish Area near the amphitheater and then Run Course. Parking: Inside Centennial Park on the grass. There will be volunteers and police to assist you. Fee: FREE to all registered 2012 Athleta Iron Girl Columbia participants
The TriColumbia Iron Girl Swim and Run Dress Rehearsal is only for 2012 Iron Girl Columbia registrants. It is designed to help you gain comfort and experience swimming in Centennial Lake and to run the 3.4 mile course. The lake is not open to the public for swimming, so this is your opportunity to feel what the race day swim will be like. Our goal is to have you relax at the start of your race.
A swim course of approximately 1100 yards will be set up with lifeguards and safety personnel on hand. Race Directors will be there to give you lots of tips and encouragement.
Swim waves, grouped by age, will begin to enter the water around 7:00 am. Beginning at 6:00 am, we will be confirming that you are a 2012 Athleta Iron Girl Columbia participant, and providing a unique wristband and tracking chip to participants. Please do not arrive late. If you are not ready to go into the water by 7:00 am, you may not be able to participate in the practice swim. No one may enter the water without a wristband and chip.
After the swim you are free to run the course on your own. Biking will not be allowed due to recommendations by the Howard County Police.
Princeton Sports, our Official Bike Support Shop will be on hand to provide basic tire changing and maintenance pointers as well. They will NOT be conducting Bike and Helmet Safety Checks at this event, but encourage you to bring your race day bike and helmet to either Princeton Sports location (10730 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, MD 21044, or 6239 Falls Rd., Baltimore, MD 21209) to have your free MANDATORY Bike and Helmet Safety Check done in the weeks prior to the race. No appointment is necessary. You must bring your CPSC-certified helmet and your race day bike. The age of your helmet does not matter as long as it is ANSI or CPSC approved and in good condition. Once checked and approved, Princeton will place a sticker on your bike which must be present on race day.
You may also have your bike inspected at the race site prior to racking your bike in the Centennial Lake transition area beginning at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 18th, after you complete the registration process at the hotel. However, we strongly advise against waiting until the day before the race, as the lines tend to be long, the weather could be inclement, your bike could need parts unavailable at the park, or repairs could take longer than just a few minutes.

Support Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic By Participating in the ChesapeakeMan Endurance Festival This September
We are delighted to announce that this year the annual Make-A-Wish Triathlon now in its 29th year, will be held in partnership with the TriColumbia ChesapeakeMan Endurance Festival. All funds raised by Make-A-Wish competitors will directly support granting wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions in Maryland, Delaware, Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia.
The ChesapeakeMan Endurance Festival includes four top shelf events for all skill levels, including the ChesapeakeMan Ultra, AquaVelo, Skipjack 75.2, or TriColumbia's brand new Bugeye Intermediate Distance Triathlon.
This year the Bugeye Classic is one of the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Triathlon Conference races. The 2012-13 MACTC series will serve as qualification for the 2013 Collegiate Nationals in April. Teams will compete in at least two series races and the MACTC Championship at Rev3 Half Full in order to earn Nationals slots. In 2012, the U.S. Naval Academy's men and the University of Virginia's women were the conference's top-qualifying teams.
Triathlon Magazine's March 2010 issue named the ChesapeakeMan Ultra Distance event a "140.6 Best Race," and The Ultra Distance event is the USAT Mid Atlantic Championship Ultra Distance race. Utilizing portions of TriColumbia's world-renown Ironman 70.3 EagleMan course, the festival takes place on September 29th, when the summer temperatures are easing. All events are still open for registration; so don't miss this gem of an endurance festival, and come experience what everyone is raving about! |
