Unlike past years, Spring has been in the air for quite some time now, infusing our thoughts with the coming race season even more. We are just a little over 1 month away from our first event of 2012, The Athleta Iron Girl Columbia Half Marathon and Coed 5K to benefit the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center. Olympic Gold medalist, running icon, and spokesperson for this race, Joan Benoit Samuelson is eagerly awaiting this event. Click here to hear her comments in a recent interview with Mix 106.5 radio personality, and Iron Girl Half Marathon trainee, Maria Dennis. To celebrate this inaugural event, Half Marathon finishers will receive a bracelet with a special commemorative sterling silver Iron Girl 13.1 bead!
Also new this season, TriColumbia is pleased to announce that The Celebrating Heroes Triathlon on June 24th will be produced to benefit The MedStar National Rehabilitation Network. NRH provides opportunities and support to people with physical disabilities so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics.
In addition, the 2012 ChesapeakeMan Endurance Festival taking place on September 29th in Cambridge, MD will be produced to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Mid-Atlantic, granting wishes to children facing life-threatening medical conditions.
We are pleased to present the Inaugural Blackwater Duathlon on June 3, 2012 as well. This event has been chosen as the USAT National Long Course Duathlon Championship event. The top 18 in each age group will qualify to compete in the ITU Long Course Duathlon World Championship to take place September 2, 2012, in Zofingen, Switzerland. PLUS...there is a $4999.00 prize purse open to all competitors!

Princeton Sports, our Official Bike Support Shop, will once again begin the Sunday Morning rides on Sunday March 25th at 9:00 AM, weather permitting from Princeton Sports in Columbia, MD - 10730 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, MD 21044 (410) 995-1894. The store will be open for use of the bathrooms, and changing rooms before and after the ride. EnduraFit Ironman 70.3 EagleMan News
The 2012 EnduraFit Ironman 70.3 EagleMan Triathlon and EagleMan AquaVelo will take place June 10th. This year's event promises to be one of the best EagleMan races yet!
Joining a stellar field of pros will be the 2011 Ironman World Champion Craig "Crowie" Alexander. Crowie is a three-time Ironman World Champion (2008, 2009 and 2011), Ironman 70.3 World Champion (2006), and three-time Australian Long Course Champion (2010, 2006, 2004). Crowie is also one of Inside Triathlon Magazine's 10 Greatest Male Iron-Distance Triathletes of All Time, and one of Inside Triathlon Magazine's 15 Greatest Male Triathletes of All Time.
In addition we are looking forward to welcoming two of the most influential CEO's in the Triathlon world. Joining us on June 10, to compete in a match dubbed "The War at The Shore" will be WTC, CEO Andrew Messick and USA Triathlon CEO, Rob Urbach.
The Blazeman Foundation for ALS is currently accepting nominations for the Blazeman Spirit Award to be presented at the 2012 EnduraFit Ironman 70.3 EagleMan. This award is given annually to a participant in the Ironman 70.3 EagleMan who most exemplifies the spirit of Jon "Blazeman" Blais. The winner will receive a complimentary 2013 entry to the EnduraFit Ironman 70.3 EagleMan, An Eagle Award, the emblematic symbol of EagleMan called "Blaze", certificate and Complimentary Ironman level membership to Team Blazeman. Congratulations to Dr. Jordan Metzl, who along with his brother, will be competing in his 14th straight Ironman 70.3 EagleMan event. Dr. Metzl's new book, The Athlete's Book of Home Remedies: 1,001 Doctor-Approved Health Fixes and Injury-Prevention Secrets for a Leaner, Fitter, More Athletic Body! will be released on March 13, 2012. Dr. Metzl is a widely respected, and nationally recognized Sports Medicine Physician at New York City's Hospital for Special Surgery. The USA Triathlon Mid Atlantic has started a paratriathlon initiative to raise awareness and support for physically challenged athletes to participate in triathlon. They will be holding a Triathlon Clinic for Youth and Adult physically challenged athletes ages 7 and up at the Bennett Institute for Physically Challenged Sports 3835 Greenspring Ave., Baltimore, MD 21211 on April 21-22 8am-5pm. Participants' experience level in each of the sports will be evaluated, and the intensity and specialization of each sport session will be adjusted accordingly. The clinic will touch on a wide range of subjects including the Swim, Bike, Run, Transition, Nutrition, and Gear. Attendance is FREE to USA Triathlon members and only $10/youth non-members, and $12/adult non-members. Contact email@example.com for information and registration. If you are a paratriathlete who wants to be part of a relay team in the upcoming Celebrating Heroes Triathlon, but don't know other athletes who want to be on a team, contact firstname.lastname@example.org, and let them know which segments you would like to do. They will do their best to match you up!
Registration is open for the USAT Race Director Certification Clinic on May 18 - 19, 2012 at the Sheraton Columbia Town Center Hotel in Columbia, MD. The class is limited to the first 20 registrants. The Sheraton is offering a special room rate of $129.00 - $149.00/night plus tax.
TriColumbia Kidz Triathlon and Learn2Tri Camp
Once again, the TriColumbia Kidz Triathlon on July 22, 2012 will provide youth ages 7-15 the opportunity to experience a healthy, fit lifestyle while boosting self-esteem in a fun, family-friendly environment. Kids experience the thrill of a real triathlon just like their adult role models. The event includes chip timing, age group awards, professional photography by ASI, a post race food tent and party, terrific raffle prizes, great music and fabulous volunteers.

Through partnership with the TRI-TO "WIN-THE-FIGHT" Frederick Kids Triathlon, and the MINI COW TRI CLUB, The TriColumbia Kidz Triathlon will once again be part of the Maryland Youth Triathlon Series, the first of its kind youth triathlon series in Maryland, promoting sun-safe practices, encouraging healthy lifestyle choices through multisport and showing kids that fit is fun and winning is finishing what you start! Through participation in more than one series event, kids can earn great prizes, and are entered into a raffle for grand prizes.
And to help your kids get ready, be sure to sign up for the Learn2Tri Summer Camp. This five-day "noncompetitive" camp will help kids reach the finish line by providing solid instruction while promoting fun, safety, and camaraderie. During the camp, coaches and local triathletes will be on hand to help develop skills in all disciplines (swimming, biking, running and transition).
