TriColumbia is honored to announce that three-time Ironman World Champion, Craig "Crowie" Alexander, will compete in the 17th annual Endurafit Ironman 70.3 EagleMan Triathlon. Alexander will join more than 2,400 endurance athletes on June 10, 2012 in Cambridge, Md.
Alexander, who has been named one of Inside Triathlon Magazine's "10 Greatest Male Iron-Distance Triathletes of All Time," one of Inside Triathlon Magazine's "15 Greatest Male Triathletes of All Time- Period," and Competitor Magazine's "2009 Male Triathlete of the Year," is a three-time Ironman World Champion (2008, 2009, 2011), two-time Ironman 70.3 World Champion (2006 & 2011) and three-time Australian Long Course Champion (2004, 2006, 2010). From 2004-2010, he landed 27 half Ironman distance overall victories.
"I was really disappointed when the virus I contracted in early 2011 prevented me from racing The EagleMan 70.3," said Alexander. "I have heard so many good things about that race and its organizers over the years that the event has been growing larger and larger on my radar. I'm eager to line up in Cambridge in 2012."
Participants will compete to qualify for the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii (30 slots) on October 13, 2012 and the Ironman 70.3 Championship in Lake Las Vegas (30 slots) on September 9, 2012. In addition, professionals will compete for a $50,000 prize purse. Last year, pros T.J. Tollakson (3:54:39) and 2010 Ironman World Champion Mirinda Carfrae (4:15:31) took home first place honors overall.
"The triathlon world will have its eyes on Cambridge, Maryland in June as this year's Endurafit Ironman 70.3 EagleMan Triathlon promises to be another exciting event with a stellar field of nearly 2,400 participants," said Robert Vigorito, President of TriColumbia. "We are thrilled and honored to have Crowie, the reigning 2011 Ironman World Champion, compete this year, as he is one of triathlon's greatest athletes of all time."

TriColumbia's Learn2Tri School Based Triathlon Youth Program Is Big News!
TriColumbia's new initiative, Learn2Tri, is getting lots of attention! The first program of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic, Learn2Tri was conceived by TriColumbia as a way combat the rapid rise in obesity and inactivity among youth both inside and outside our schools. This program enables kids to experience the benefits of swimming, biking and running, which are natural, high energy, cross training activities that keep individuals motivated, minimize injuries and provide total body fitness. Triathlon is a lifelong activity that can be enjoyed by kids and families, who want to lead active lives, stay fit, and have fun together.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Maryland's obesity rate was close to 25 percent in 2010, about a quarter of Maryland's residents. Furthermore, across the United States, only 3.8 percent of elementary schools, 7.9 percent of middle schools and 2.1 percent of high schools provide daily physical education or its equivalent for the entire school year. Twenty-two percent of schools do not require students to take any physical education at all. It has been proven that regular physical activity in childhood and adolescence improves strength and endurance, helps build healthy bones and muscles, helps control weight, reduces anxiety and stress, and increases self-esteem; all goals of this triathlon instruction program.
WBAL and The Baltimore Sun recently covered this new and innovative partnership between TriColumbia and the Howard County Public School System which implements elementary, middle and high school triathlon instruction during physical education courses in an effort to educate students on the experience and lifestyle benefits of triathlon. Students and teachers alike are thrilled to be taking part in this unique program.
Sponsors of the Learn2Tri Program include The Horizon Foundation, CareFirst BlueCross Blue Shield, The McDonalds Family Restaurants of Greater Baltimore, USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic, and Howard County General Hospital. Partners in the program include Trek Bicycles, Race Pace Bicycles, The Columbia Association, and Lock Laces.
