Robert Vigorito
Vigo Is Back!

As you may know, CTA Race Director, Robert "Vigo" Vigorito suffered a bike accident while attending the Ironman Championship in Kona this fall. After an extended recovery period, Vigo and his wife, Sharon, have returned home to Maryland. The outpouring of well wishes and prayers from friends throughout the triathlon community and beyond, have been a source of strength and certainly aided in his recovery.

Vigo has been an inspiration and a source of change for so many over the years. One friend said it best, "If it had not been for the extraordinary work that you do in triathlon, I would not be on this incredible journey I call my life! I have always said that I am blessed to have the best triathlons in my "backyard". You have enabled me to travel the world, meeting people and connecting in a way few would understand."

Welcome Home, Vigo. We are all grateful that you are back!

Can You Keep Those Winter Pounds Off?

You made it through Thanksgiving, but the holiday season is far from over, and the off-season is just beginning. As sugar plum fairies dance in your head tempting you with all manner of calorie laden treats, check out these articles by Bob Seebohar, MS, RD, CSCS featured on www.trinewbies.com and www.usatriathlon.org.
The first article provides valuable tips to avoid overeating during the holidays, and the second discusses the concept of nutrition periodization especially relevant to the triathlete.
Y Logo
Make A Difference In The Life Of A Child And Stay Active

The Y of Central Maryland has developed a brand new mentoring program called Building Futures that matches adult volunteers to young people, ages 6 - 18, who need the presence of reliable, responsible and caring adults in their lives.

The Y provides training, hundreds of Y activities and events for you and your mentee to participate in and a FREE one-year youth or adult membership to the Y while in the program.
All activities take place within a family center Y or Y-staffed event or program. You can swim with your mentee, play cards at the Y, help your mentee with homework, do whatever productive, healthy activity meets your interests, and do it all in the safe and comfortable environment of your nearest family center Y or Y program site.

Mentors receive ongoing support and supervision from Y staff who are trained family therapists or social workers. The families of the mentees are also included in the mentoring process, so all parties are engaged and working towards a common goal.

So give a gift this season that really makes a difference for children in our community.

Contact your local Y to get started.
