We at CTA would like to congratulate and thank you for your commitment to challenge yourself in next week's 2010 Assisted Living Well ChesapeakeMan Endurance Festival. We know you've trained hard and are ready! Final preparations are being made, and the weather forecast looks great with high temperatures in the mid-seventies. This year's race promises to live up to Triathlete Magazine's rating as a BEST 140.6 internationally!

This correspondence contains the latest, important event information. Please take a moment to review it. Please note an additional gear bag that Ultra Distance, Aqua Velo and Skipjack athletes can use for race morning clothing and post race items in case family and friends are not present to hold those items.

The Expo will be headlined by Dig ME Sports with a full line of triathlon gear specially priced for ChesapeakeMan athletes!
 
WHEN:Thursday, September 23, 2pm - 7pm, and Friday, September 24, 12 noon - 6 pm.

PLEASE NOTE: All pre-registered entrants are expected to attend packet pick up in person. All participants must show a photo ID and all USAT annual members must show their membership cards as well. No Exceptions for ChesapeakeMan Ultra Distance, Aqua Velo participants and Skipjack participants. ONLY the Swimfest participants may pick up their race packets on race morning (at Great Marsh Park pavilion).

A unique wristband will be affixed at this time, which must remain on through the end of the race. Your wristband will also provide you entry into the Pre-Race Carb Dinner on Thursday evening and the Post-Race Champions Brunch on Sunday morning.
 
WHERE:The host hotel - Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina 100 Heron Blvd, Cambridge, MD, 21613. - Galleon Ballroom

WHAT TO BRING: All participants MUST show a photo ID, and all USAT annual members must show their membership card. No Exceptions. No proof of ID then No packets, No race.

RELAY TEAMS PACKET PICK UP:
All members of each and every team must pick up their packets either Thursday or Friday in person. The same requirements stated above pertain to relay team members.

SPECIAL NOTICE TO ATHLETES IN REGARD TO USAT CARDS FOR REGISTRATION
Athletes MUST bring proof of annual membership or purchase a one-day permit. Athletes who do not bring/show proof of membership must purchase a one-day license OR will not be allowed to race. Athletes who forget their membership cards will have four options below:

- Go" back" and get your card.

- Print off a temporary membership card from the USAT web site. Showing it on your iPhone or BlackBerry is acceptable also. Race staff members cannot pull up your USAT information or allow you use of computers.  Do not ask them to do so.

- Purchase a $10.00 one-day license, payable only by cash or check; no credit card purchase is permitted.

- Renew your annual membership online and bring proof of renewal.

Please remember to pack your USAT membership card. Don't leave home without it.

Please note that all CTA events have the one day option as a part of the race entry fee structure should you select that form of payment.

Mandatory Bike Racking and Bike and Helmet Inspections
 
WHERE: Great Marsh Park

WHEN: Friday, Sept 24th from 2 pm to 7:30pm.

Please rack your bike on Friday. You many leave your bike ONLY in the transition area overnight. You will be allowed into the transition area on race morning to set up the rest of your transition and to drop your bike gear bag, but you will NOT be allowed to remove your bike from the transition area before the race.

Mandatory bike and helmet inspections will be done as you rack your bike courtesy of the ChesapeakeMan Official Bike Support Shop, TriSpeed Multisport. You must have your race day bike and your CPSC certified helmet with you.

You may visit TriSpeed Multisport at their shop located at 1421 Clarkview Rd. Suite. 124 Baltimore 21209 prior to Friday, September 24th to have your bike and helmet checked for the race.

Changes of Race Division or Category

Changes to your race division or category are no longer being accepted. Changing divisions, up or down, WILL NOT BE ALLOWED at packet pickup or on race morning. If you complete in a different category of race than the one for which you are registered, you will receive a DNF and we cannot guarantee you a medal or shirt.

Carbo Dinners and Champions Brunch

Pre-Race Carb Dinner:
Where: Hyatt Regency Hotel, Chesapeake Ballroom
When: Thursday, September 23, 2010 from 5 -8 PM
Free to Ultra Distance and Aqua Velo athletes wearing wristband obtained at packet pick up. Additional tickets may be purchased at packet pickup for $30 each.

Pre-Race Carb Buffet Offered by The Hyatt:
Where: Hyatt Regency Hotel, Water's Edge Grill
When: Friday, September 24, 2010 from 5:30 - 10 PM
The cost is $21.00 per adult, $10.50 per child (4-12) and free for children 3 and under with each paid adult.  Reservations are recommended by calling 410-901-6400. This dinner is NOT included with your entry.

Post-Race Champions Brunch:
Where: Hyatt Regency Hotel, Chesapeake Ballroom
When: Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 9 AM
Free to Ultra Distance and Aqua Velo athletes wearing wristband obtained at packet pick up. Additional tickets may be purchased at packet pickup for $25 each. The Brunch will feature an Awards Ceremony for the ChesapeakeMan Ultra Distance Triathlon.

Note that the Bay Country Market at The Hyatt Hotel will open at 5 AM on race morning, September 25th, for coffee and breakfast.

Pre-Race Meeting

When: Friday, Sept 24, 6 PM

Where:Hyatt Regency Resort, Chesapeake Ballroom

Dont miss this very Important meeting. The Race Director will provide important race day information and tips. Please plan to attend!

Water Conditions, Wetsuits and Swim Starts

The Choptank River in the fall has varied in temperatures from a low of 72 degrees to a high of 78 degrees over the past 10 years. The USAT rules state that wetsuit usage is allowed up to a maximum water temperature of 78 degrees F. Under these circumstances, the use of a wetsuit would be permitted. Please see the updated list of USAT approved skinsuits and speedsuits

Gear Bags And Special Needs Bags

ChesapeakeMan Ultra Distance Athletes:
You will be given 5 bags labeled with your race number at registration -
1. Pre-Swim Bag - You will bring this with you to swim start on race morning. It is to be used to hold clothing or other items that you wear before the race begins and/or clothing and other personal items that you would like to have at the end of the race.  It will be transported to Cambridge South Dorchester High School and hung at your bike rack slot in Transition area 2. The use of this bag is not required as you may opt to hand your pre swim clothing, shoes etc. to a friend or family member who accompanies you to the race and you may store your post race clothing and personal items in your car at the high school finish area. Most athletes who have friends or family with them will choose not to use this bag.
2. Bike Gear Bag
- You will bring this with you to swim start on race morning and it will be handed to you when you exit the water and enter the changing tent. You will place your swim gear in this bag and it will be transported for you to Cambridge South Dorchester High School and hung at your bike rack slot in Transition area 2. Bags will not be handed over to friends or relatives; all bags will be taken to the high school.
3. Run Gear Bag - You will drop off this bag and the two special needs bags to a CTA official stationed at the Cambridge South Dorchester High School on race morning beginning at 4:30 AM. Buses will be available to shuttle you to Great Marsh Park for the swim start. This bag will be handed to you after you dismount to be taken into the changing tent. Bike gear can be placed inside, and it will be hung at your bike rack slot in Transition area 2. It is recommended that you affix reflective tape to your running shoes and/or the back of clothing to aid in visibility.
4. Bike Special Needs Bag - You will drop off this bag at the high school before the race as well. This bag will be available at the high school at an aid station after the first bike loop. You will place personal nutrition items such as additional food, gels, liquid items to enhance and personalize your performance. The return of items in special needs bags cannot be guaranteed so please DO NOT place anything valuable in them.
5. Run Special Needs Bag - You will drop this bag at the high school before the race as well. It should contain any personal nutrition items for the run leg. This bag will be available at the high school at an aid station. You may ask for it during any of the 3 loops. The return of items in special needs bags cannot be guaranteed so please DO NOT place anything valuable in them.

Aqua Velo Athletes:
You will be given 3 bags labeled with your race number at registration  -
1. Pre-Swim Bag - You will bring this with you to swim start on race morning. It is to be used to hold clothing or other items that you wear before the race begins and/or clothing and other personal items that you would like to have at the end of the race.  It will be transported to Cambridge South Dorchester High School and hung at your bike rack slot in Transition area 2. The Awards Ceremony for the Aqua Velo and Skipjack will take place on Saturday, September 25 at 3 PM at The Cambridge South Dorchester High School.

Awards for the ChesapeakeMan Ultra Distance will be presented at the Champions Brunch at The Hyatt Regency in the Chesapeake Ballroom on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 9 AM. Ultra Distance and Aqua Velo athletes, please remember to keep your wristband on as this will be your entry into the Brunch. Others who wish to attend must purchase a ticket at packet pickup at a cost of $25.00 each.
