Inaugural Celebration Sprint Triathlon Allowed Many To "Tri" and Succeed
High heat and humidity couldn't deter over 1500 athletes from racing in the Inaugural Celebration Triathlon in Columbia, MD on June 27th. The brutal conditions were no match for high spirited and determined participants, including Mark Viviano of WJZ 105.7 "The Fan." Mark shares the thrill of his first triathlon and reflections on the "physical and mental challenges" he has never encountered before.
There were many inspiring stories spawned that day including Jewel's story about a new triathlete, and her struggle to finish made possible with the help of a new found friend and fellow competitor. Don't miss Jewel's story on our Facebook Page.
If you weren't there in person, check out the TRI-Lights live blog posted during the race.
Congratulations to all
athletes who participated and many thanks to all our sponsors, dedicated
volunteers, police, emergency workers and staff for making the 2010 Celebration Sprint Triathlon a huge
success!
Don't miss next year's race on June 26, 2011. Registration opens on September 20, 2010 at 9 am.

Road Construction During July Affects Local Training Routes.
Watch out for road construction in Howard County during July which will affect popular bike riding routes including a portion of the Iron Girl bike course. The entire Homewood Road/Folly Quarter traffic circle to the Ten Oaks/Tridelphia corridor is affected and the road is unrideable by bicycle. This project should be completed by late July and will provide a much improved riding surface after completion. Also, a Howard County construction project to lower a section of Frederick Road in the vicinity of Arcadia Drive and Plum Tree Drive in Ellicott City is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, July 19. Approximately 350 feet of Frederick Road will be lowered in order to improve sight distance. In addition, Frederick Road along the frontage of the Howard County Miller Branch Library will be milled and repaved during the road closure period. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed before public schools resume on August 30. In addition, there is a
construction project in progress to widen a section of Ten Oaks Road just north of Maryland Route 108 in Clarksville which should be complete by late September.
Check out training opportunities sponsored by the Mid Maryland Triathlon Club. More information on road projects in Howard County.

TriColumbia Kidz Triathlon Promotes Active and Healthy Lifestyles For Kids
The TriColumbia Kidz Triathlon will take place on July 25, 2010. CTA is proud to be part of a growing movement providing opportunities for kids to stay fit and healthy and to build self esteem through participation in triathlon events. USA Triathlon reports that youth membership doubled from 2007 to 2009. On the last Sunday in July, kids 7 - 15 will swim, bike and run .
All entrants may bring in their bikes to Princeton Sports in Columbia,
the Official Bike Support Team and receive a free safety check. In addition, Princeton
Sports will be at RoadRunner Sports during packet pickup on Friday and
Saturday, and at bike racking on Sunday morning, to check bikes and
helmets. All
bikes must be in sound working order and all bike helmets must be CPSC
approved (look inside the helmet if unsure). This is a USAT rule and
insurance requirement. The head/brain is your most important possession,
and it must be protected at all times while on the bike.
If you do not have an approved bike helmet your child
will not be permitted to participate. No exceptions.
See important race information on our website including details about packet pickup, pre-event race meeting and race day schedule.
Check out a recent story aired on CBS News highlighting an IronKids triathlon in North Carolina, and this growing population of triathletes.
