A Message from President & CEO Brian D. Hercules
As I write this article I am looking out the window of my office and guess what I see.....more snow. I don't know about you but I have enjoyed my allotment of snow for this winter season. It has been a tough winter, and it makes me think about the people in our community that are dealing with the elements because they are homeless. I think about the children that are missing the hot meal they get at school, and the families struggling with their utility and food budgets. All of these situations can make us sad if we dwell on them.
I hope you will join me with a" glass half full" attitude and understand that because of your gift we have agencies prepared to help during these times. I appreciate knowing that we live in a community that has a heart for the critical needs in this community. If you have given this year through your United Way, thank you. If you have not, it is not too late. Every gift, no matter the size, makes an impact. We are in the process of winding down the 2010 campaign, and I am happy to tell you that with your help we expect to be ahead of last year. In today's economy, that is a great place to be.
We will be shifting gears in the next month or so to allocations. This is a wonderful way to get involved at your United Way. You get a chance to see firsthand what each agency does and the needs of our community. Please consider volunteering in this process.
On a closing note I would like to say thank you to the Murfreesboro Young Professionals for a tremendous fundraiser they sponsored for United Way. They held a trivia night on January 25th with all proceeds going to the 2010 United Way Campaign. Over 100 people participated, and they proved that fundraising can be fun! |

2011 Days of Action
The 2011 Days of Action will be held March 31 through April 2. Last year 260 volunteers signed up for the Day of Action. This year UWRCC volunteers will be partnering with MTSU's annual "The Big Event." With the new partnership, UWRCC expects to have nearly twice the amount of volunteers as last year.
UWRCC's partner agencies are asked to submit projects and UWRCC connects volunteers with each project. Often companies such as Atmos Energy, Middle Tennessee Medical Center,
ClaimTrust, Guaranty Trust, and many others have teams of volunteers to participate in Days of Action.
If you are interested in signing up to be a volunteer or have a company team, please follow the link below. Deadline to register to volunteer is March 1, 2011.

2011 Publix Campaign
This year, Publix Supermarket Associates in Rutherford County gave $143,571.80 through the United Way in-store campaign. Publix Charities matched employee gifts with an additional $108,900. Together, the 6 store locations donated $252,471.80 to meet the most critical needs in our community.
Publix provided a full-time Loaned Executive, Renee Bess, to support your United Way Campaign staff during the busiest time of the fundraising season. Renee led the Retail division, launching successful fundraising promotions in local restaurants and small businesses. Publix generosity continues with in-kind donations for our community partners.
Store Manager Imrich Kusnir serves on the UW Board of Directors. Publix Associates in our area will be recognized at Publix Appreciation Day by United Way staff, volunteers and agencies on February 17th.
