Feature Agency of the Month

Exchange Club Family Center
-
Who Are We? Exchange Club Family Center is the only licensed child abuse prevention agency serving Middle Tennessee. We were established in Murfreesboro in 1989. Last year the Exchange Club Family Center's prevention programs served over 3,000 children and parents in 28 counties and four states. We do so by providing three levels of prevention. · At the first level, we raise community awareness of abuse and neglect. · At the second level we identify and intervene with those who are at risk of abusing or neglecting their children. · At the third level of prevention we work with parents and children where abuse or neglect has already occurred to ensure that it does not reoccur and that its negative effects are mitigated. Exchange Club Family Center Services · Parent Education Classes -- A variety of parenting classes and workshops on topics of divorce, child development, managing a child's behavior, communication and parenting styles · Supervised Visitation -- Professionally monitored visits between non-custodial parents and their children in a safe and neutral environment · Safe Exchange - Exchanges that facilitate the transfer of children for visits between parents and guardians in a safe and positive environment · In-Home Family Counseling - Counseling involving the entire family and focusing on strengthening parent and child relationships through support and education · Community Outreach - Presentations for the general public as well as seminars for professionals on child abuse and neglect and related topics Important facts about child abuse? Child abuse is the physical, sexual and/or emotional harm or neglect of children. · A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds. · Substantiated cases of child abuse have increased 818% in Rutherford County and 243% in Davidson County during a recent five-year reporting period. · Child abuse is cyclical. 30% of abused children will later abuse their own children. · Children who experience abuse and violence are twice as likely to commit crimes, be arrested and engage in criminal behavior earlier. · Abused children are more likely to experience mental health issues and drug abuse throughout their lives. · You share the burden of treating child abuse which costs an estimated $104 billion annually in the United States. www.familycentertn.org 115 Heritage Park Drive, Murfreesboro, TN 37129 139 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37211

Pepsi's Refresh Everything Grant

Your United Way has applied for a grant through Pepsi's "Refresh Everything" program for its next United Way Day of Action. If United Way were to be a recipient of this grant, it would fund the materials needed for the agency projects as opposed to the agency assuming the costs for these materials. In order to receive the Pepsi grant, the public most vote on United Way's entry.
To cast your vote, please visit http://www.refresheverything.com/unitedway. You may vote once per day through June 30th.
The United Way Day of Action unites hundreds of volunteers with the United Way partner agencies to perform a day of service within those partner agencies. |
