CEO Corner
Brian Hercules | It is hard to believe, as I write this article, that eight months have passed. It seems like just yesterday I was beginning my first day at your United Way. Where does the time go?
Over the last eight months, we have seen many changes, with many of those changes in our staff. The most recent change was the departure of our Project PASS Director, Kathy Ferrell. Kathy received a great offer from the city school system and we are proud of her.
As a result of the vacant position, we have been able to add Eric Kingsley. Eric brings great knowledge from the business community with an emphasis on accounting and human resources. Our team continues to get stronger.
With the 2009 campaign behind us and the allocation process on the horizon, the staff has been busy getting out and visiting the partner agencies. It is amazing to see the work being done by our partner agencies. Recently, we have had the opportunity to visit many of the agnecies to include West Main Mission, Salvation Army, Discovery Center, Senior Center (both Woodbury & Murfreesboro) and Cannon County REACH. As we have visited, it has become a common question among the staff - how do we communicate the work being done by these agencies to the community?
The agencies' work is truly a testiment to the concern they have for the community. They truly are performing a labor of love that many times is unrecognized. When you witness someone that needs help with food, clothing, basic shelter or you witness a child receive a hug or a word of encouragement, it is so rewarding to know that you helped to provide that service.
Wow - what a reason to come to work every day. I challenge each of you to visit the agencies in our community as they are so important. And, I know they would love to see you............
I hope you all will share in our mission to GIVE, ADVOCATE, and VOLUNTEER...together we can LIVE UNITED!

Pepsi's Refresh Everything Grant

Your United Way has applied for a grant through Pepsi's "Refresh Everything" program for its next United Way Day of Action. If United Way were to be a recipient of this grant, it would fund the materials needed for the agency projects as opposed to the agency assuming the costs for these materials. In order to receive the Pepsi grant, the public most vote on United Way's entry.
The United Way application is currently under review by Pepsi. If approved, United Way will share the link to vote closer to the voting date range.
The United Way Day of Action unites hundreds of volunteers with the United Way partner agencies to perform a day of service within those partner agencies. Volunteer teams are composed of companies, churches, schools, organizations, etc. in the community. |
