Nurses in training at Central Connecticut State University staged a mini-Health Fair at 85 Arch Street for Friendship Center residents and Arch Street Housing tenants on a recent afternoon.
Participants were offered screenings for blood pressure, anemia, diabetes and cholesterol, as well as health and wellness information and demonstrations on nutrition, dental hygiene, proper hand washing and foot care. Clients appreciated and were delighted with free samples of toothpaste, toothbrushes, skin lotion and socks.
The health fair is part of the service-learning component of a CCSU course called Social Justice and Community Health Issues, and is just one of the many ways that student nurses are involved with the Friendship Service Center.
