Okay Industries, Inc., New Britain
2010 Business of the Year
Okay Industries stepped up in a big way to support their neighbors in need by fielding a walk team appropriately named the "Stampers for Hunger" during the 2010 Walk Against Hunger, with proceeds benefiting the Friendship Center. Okay found the Walk effort to be a successful team-building exercise among its employees. Many thanks, friends!
Okay's Jason Howey, Exec. VP and COO (left), and
Enzo Constantiello, Auto Press Supervisor, accept their award with a promise of even bigger Walk participation in 2011!
Frank Maccarone, New Britain
2010 Landlord of the Year
The Friendship Center's Outreach Program staff interact with many local landlords in their client advocacy work. None is more appreciated than Frank Maccarone, who can be counted on to treat tenants fairly and with kindness. He also understands that paying attention to "little" things is a "big" thing when it comes to a family's safety and security. Congratulations and thanks, Frank!
Frank Maccarone (above center) is congratulated by Suzy Rivera, Director of the Friendship Center's Outreach Programs, and Mayor Timothy Stewart.

St. Mark's Church, New Britain
2010 Faith Community of the Year
The Adopt-A-Family program each year makes it possible for families whose budgets are already stretched to the breaking point to enjoy special holiday meals and gifts. The members of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in New Britain provide space so that organizations and individuals can drop off gifts and so that staff and volunteers can sort and package donations. Thanks for your partnership and support for this important ministry and gift to the community! At right, the Rev. Patricia Hames, Rector of
St. Mark's Church (center), and Cheryl Rusczyk, church Office Manager, accept their award from Gerry Waldo, the Friendship Center's Kitchen Director.
In the Spotlight... The Friends of the Friendship Center
At the Annual Meeting, the agency's auxiliary, the Friends of the Friendship Center, was celebrated for their too-numerous-to-count gifts of time, talent, treasure and love. Their highly-successful "Homelessness is for the Birds!" campaign in 2010 engaged the entire New Britain community in a meaningful project and raised awareness of homelessness in a creative and participatory way. Proceeds will directly benefit Friendship Center residents, and the birdhouses that were designed, built, decorated and sold will greatly improve New Britain area bird family housing this Spring! Thank you, dear friends!
