Thank You! October On-line Auction and Poker Tournament to benefit the fight against A.L.S. a success!
October was a busy month for the Foundation! Beginning Wednesday, October 12th and running through Thursday October 20, the Foundation ran its first ever on-line auction. Our auction items were generously donated by businesses and individuals who support the Foundation's cause. We raised $840 as 3 lucky individuals walked away with amazing deals on 3 big ticket items!
On Sunday, October 23, 2011, the A.L.S. Family Charitable Foundation's "DEEP STACK", Texas Hold' Em Charity Poker Tournament" attracted 38 players and raised $1,900 for the fight against Lou Gehrig's Disease. It was an "All Ladies" final table! First place winner Liz Walderman, and second place winner Gail Magliozzi made for a very exciting final table and combined to take home over $600!
The tournament was held at the Falmouth Elks Lodge and was sponsored by Sun Self Storage, Pina Enterprises, Curtis Automotive, DFM Insurance Agency, NAPA Auto Parts, the Falmouth Elks Lodge, and Paul Peters Insurance Agency. A delicious lunch was sponsored by Steve's Pizzeria & More, Family Foods, Windfall Market, and Stop & Shop.
A very special thanks to Bill Drinan and the Falmouth Elks Lodge for their generous support with this event.

Our Day with Ellen!
Ellen Corindia is one of our amazing patients who was kind enough to travel with us to Chatham High School on Friday, October 21, 2011 and share with a group of students her experiences living with A.L.S. This is the second time Ellen has made the trip out to Chatham High to meet with teacher Lisa Forte-Doyle and her class who presented our Foundation with a check in the amount of $245! The class held a fundraising drive for 2 weeks prior to our visit and were proud to present the check!
Ellen produced and shared the amazing video you will find below with the entire class! She is one of the most inspirational individuals you will ever meet. Thank you Ellen!

The A. George Kerr Patient Fund Foundation Patient Program renamed to honor George Kerr!
We are honored to celebrate the tremendous spirit, courage and the light and laughter George Kerr brought into our lives, and our Patient Program will now be named the A. George Kerr Patient Fund. "Papa G" and his family have supported our efforts for several years and we were lucky to have been a part of his life.
We first met George about 10 years ago at the Cliff Walk, and his first words to Mary Ann were, "the music is too damn loud"! That was the beginning of a true friendship. George showed courage, tenacity, and his extraordinary sense of humor through his battle with A.L.S. was unsurpassed. He never let A.L.S. stop him from enjoying life and will always have a place in all of our hearts. Thank you George.
This fund assists patients with financial needs. |
