COE offers new Ed.D. program in educational leadership The College of Education has designed a new doctoral program that gives k-12 school and district administrators the knowledge and skills to deal effectively with the complex issues facing educators today.
The Professional Doctorate in Education (Ed. D.) with a major in Educational Leadership is designed to advance the development and practice of effective educational leadership, giving its students opportunities to analyze current issues in education and expand their leadership skills. "Our Ed.D. in educational leadership is the only program in the state that gives school leaders the opportunity to hone their leadership skills through a research-based, executive program," said Jami Berry, program coordinator. The Ed.D. program is offered in a three-year, weekend residency format at Georgia State University's Alpharetta campus. Students in each cohort attend classes one Saturday per month, participate in online discussions and complete reading and writing assignments between monthly sessions. This alternative format allows its students the flexibility to maintain their current positions while taking leadership and research courses.

Blurring Boundaries: An International Educational Development Conference
April 10-11, 2012
Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel 210 Peachtree Street Atlanta, GA 30303
Many countries, provinces, municipalities and other governing bodies have requested, indeed mandated, that their universities serve as levers of change for educational improvement in their communities. Colleges and universities are being asked to use their formidable intellectual and human resources to expedite the development of education and educational capacity for children and adolescents. For many universities, however, active involvement in school improvement has proven challenging because a template for such work does not exist - at least not one that is readily applicable to a variety of cultures.
The Blurring Boundaries Conference, co-sponsored by the United Nations Academic Impact and the Committee for Teaching about the United Nations, will offer two days of panel sessions, symposia and keynote addresses, allowing scholars and leaders to gather and exchange international research on child development, health and mental health, schooling, indigenous education, neuroscience and other relevant topics, which will inform the partnership work of universities worldwide in their educational development efforts.
