Leaders in education share insights during Research Wednesdays Speaker Series

hands on booksLeading educational scientists throughout the U.S. will share their research and insights as part of the College of Education's annual Research Wednesdays Speaker Series, which begins Sept. 14.

The series is designed to fulfill three goals: to provide a platform for explorations of new ways of conducting and disseminating educational research, to discuss new methods of mentoring doctoral students in an effort to enhance their development as researchers, and to fill a professional development need by providing access to cutting edge researchers at the state and national levels.

"This premier speaker series continues to ensure that our GSU faculty and students and all in the Atlanta community are fully informed about cutting-edge research and practice in education and related fields," said COE Dean Randy Kamphaus. "Equally important, Research Wednesdays allows faculty and students to actively participate in national and international debates about educational issues."

This fall's speakers, who come from a variety of universities and educational organizations, will discuss topics such as urban education, improving teaching quality, test session behavior and federal activities regarding educational research, among others.

Why I give to the COE...

Mike Metzler

Mike Metzler

COE Professor and Donor

"I make donations to Georgia State University and the College of Education for two primary reasons. The first is to simply give something back to acknowledge the support I have been given to pursue the only career I have ever wished to have. I thoroughly enjoy my work and know that I have opportunities at GSU and in the COE that would be available at only a few other universities. The second reason is that I am fully aware that the ability of GSU and the COE to fulfill their related missions is being increasingly challenged with reduced fiscal support from the state. Rather than doing 'less with less,' GSU and the COE have even broadened the scope of their important work, and I contribute to help fill our current state funding gap in some small way."
