Meet Our New Faculty Dr. Kevin Fortner has been appointed a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Educational Policy Studies.
He received his bachelor's degree from Georgia State University in 1997 and his master's degree from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro in 2003. He earned his doctorate in public policy from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia State in 2010.
Prior to joining the faculty, Fortner worked as a senior research associate in the Carolina Institute for Public Policy at UNC. His research focuses on education policy, policy analysis, program evaluation and quantitative methods.
"I'm excited about working in a diverse urban area," he said. "I hope to bring some of the work I've done on teacher preparation and student achievement to the College of Education."
"I am pleased to have Dr. Fortner join our faculty. He is a talented young scholar who is conducting leading field research on teacher effectiveness and the effectiveness of teacher education institutions," said Randy Kamphaus, dean of the College of Education. "In addition, his hire represents our commitment to embracing a wide range of research methodologies which, in turn, helps our faculty make progress toward solving the most vexing problems in education, child development and related fields."
