Leading educational scientists share insights during COE's annual Research Wednesdays Speaker Series

hands on booksLeading educational scientists throughout the U.S. will share their research and insights as part of the College of Education's annual Research Wednesdays Speaker Series, which begins Sept. 8.

The series is designed to fulfill three goals: to provide a platform for explorations of new ways of conducting and disseminating educational research, to discuss new methods of mentoring doctoral students in an effort to enhance their development as researchers, and to fill a professional development need by providing access to cutting edge researchers at the state and national levels.

"As a major city research university, it is crucial that all of our work is at the leading edge of knowledge in education, human development and related fields," said COE Dean Randy Kamphaus. "The world-renowned researchers that are coming here to share their expertise with us will allow our faculty to ensure that they are creating new knowledge and innovations with the potential for global impact.  The quality of the researchers who have agreed to join us for these seminars is also a testament to the rising reputation of our institution."

This fall's speakers, who come from as close as Emory University and as far away as Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia, will discuss a variety of topics, from career education and professional development to cognitive impairments and geographic information systems.

The speaker series was developed in direct response to the recommendation of the research committee of the COE's 2008 Strategic Planning Committee. The committee recommended that a research and scholarship colloquium be established where faculty and students share their work with colleagues and the community-at-large.
