College of Education offers research training program for faculty, professionals

Taking notesStarting this fall, the College of Education will offer a professional development series designed to help faculty and other professionals hone their researching skills.

The Advanced Training Program in Education Research Methods and Design will feature speakers from different fields of academic study who will focus on research practices and analysis. The program will take an in-depth approach to professional development with weekly sessions throughout the fall semester.

"This is unique in that we're fostering professional development over time and addressing research topics thoroughly," said Bryan Williams, COE associate dean of research and scholarship and the program's creator. "We want to link faculty with experts in the field and to create a cohort of researchers who can work together and spark ideas that may not have come up without that collaboration."

More specifically, the weekly sessions will address data documentation and summarization, emerging methods in educational research and data representation. Participants will be encouraged to bring in their own data to use during the sessions and take part in a culminating research summit at the end of the program.

The program is free for all Georgia State University faculty and open to professionals outside of the university for a fee. Participants must register online by Aug. 2.

Why I give to the College of Education at Georgia State University

Jerry Robbins

Jerry Robbins
COE Dean (1983-1990)
Donor, Jerry Robbins Endowed Scholarship in Mathematics

"I support the COE because of the extremely important and high-quality work that it does to provide personnel for the schools of the metro Atlanta area. Private giving is essential because there's never enough funding through state and institutional resources to do all that needs to be done. Georgia State University was extremely good to me for the 12 years I worked there and my giving is a way to provide a bit of support for COE students in return."
