DISD High School students to receive $7,500 in awards at May graduation ceremonies
DALLAS-For the second year Students graduating from three Dallas ISD high schools will have the opportunity to win $2,500 scholarships to the college of their choice thanks to support from The Greenville Avenue Area Business Association, (GAABA).
Recognizing the importance of public education, GAABA wishes to support Dallas ISD schools in the community. The organization has committed to provided $2,500 each to one graduating senior at each of the following high schools: Emmett J. Conrad, North Dallas and Woodrow Wilson.
"Our association is proud to award these scholarships for the second consecutive year, providing financial assistance to three deserving high school students in our area who desire a higher education," said Jorge Levy, GAABA president and owner of Desperados Mexican Restaurant. "We believe in the commitment to higher education and we take pride in giving back to the community that supports our area merchants. In these difficult times we feel it's important to help support the Dallas ISD in their efforts to prepare the next generation for the next step in their scholastic development."
Students must show financial need, and must have applied to a college or university prior to filing the scholarship application. Applications are available from Dallas ISD school counselors at the
three schools, or on the Web site at www.dallasisd.org/parents/scholarship, Finalists were interviewed in April and the scholarship winners will be announced in May.
In addition to a protion of the Parade funds, profits from the first annual "Savor Mexico" student chef's competition presented by Desperados Mexican Restaurant and GAABA on March 31st went to support the DISD Scholarship fund.
