| Donations of Gently Used Playground Toys & Playhouses | |
Doing your spring cleaning? If you find any gently-used sand toys, skipping ropes, balls, sidewalk chalk, skip-its or frisbees that you no longer need, why not donate them to Castor Valley? Our students can use them in the playground at recess. A donation box will be set up in the school foyer. If you have any outdoor playhouses (e.g., Little Tykes), we could also use these in our kindergarten yard. ALSO...Our teachers and students would like a quiet spot in the primary yard for outdoor lessons and quiet games at recess..... If you have a gently used wooden picnic table (full size or small sized), we can put it to good use at Castor Valley. Thank you! Thanks to the parents who initiated this and congratulations to our wonderful Mrs. Anderson who received $500 to use for her classroom. Congratulations to Mme Larabie a CVES grade 1 teacher who has been selected as one of the 20 finalists for the OCRI Capital Educators' Awards! This is a remarkable honour as hundreds of nominations were received and only 66 from across the region made it to the finalist stage and only 19 from our school board.
The criteria for finalist selection was: 1) demonstrated excellence in teaching and 2) acting as a positive role model and or making a difference in someone's life!
Winner to be announced on May 20 at the Edugala www.ocri.ca/edugala/ |
| Lost and Found | Over 300 items were collected from the Lost and Found box between December and March. Items were sorted and put on display in the foyer thanks to the help of students Janet W., Lindsay G., Kiera B. and Madeleine P. and parents Marg Clunie, Francine Hopley and Heather Wilson and our ever helpful custodian Mr. Jeff. Items were washed and will be sold through consignment or donated to a shelter. Please consider labeling your child's items with Mabels Labels, one of our school fundraisers - Mabel's Labels are fun, durable labels for the stuff kids lose...hats, mittens, coats, boots, shoes, bags, to name a few. Sticky and clothing labels are dishwasher, microwave and laundry safe. Labels are designed to be very special to each child, customized with your child's name, favourite mix of colours and an icon, and are perfect for school, day care, camp and sports teams.
