mabel's labels

Lost and Found - Our lost and found bin is overflowing again.  Following March Break, items will be donated or sold at a consignment store. Please consider labeling your child's items with Mabels Labels, one of our school fundraisers - Mabel's Labels are fun, durable labels for the stuff kids lose...hats, mittens, coats, boots, shoes, bags, to name a few.  Sticky and clothing labels are dishwasher, microwave and laundry safe.  Labels are designed to be very special to each child, customized with your child's name, favourite mix of colours and an icon, and are perfect for school, day care, camp and sports teams. Go to www.castorvalley.ca  to order and support CVES at the same time!
Campbell's Labels for Education Program
Please send in labels from Campbell's soup and other products for this program.  A collection box is in the school foyer.  See www.labelsforeducation.ca  or contact Kim Sheldrick for more information.

olympics 2010

Thank you to our amazing CVES teachers and staff who helped make the Olympic dream come alive during our 'Olympic Opening Ceremonies' complete with parade of countries and flag bearers, a real torch, actual torch bearers from our school community, lighting of the flame, singing of Oh Canada, bilingual audio visual accompaniment and musical performance from the band.  What a fantastic display of spirit and teamwork and what a great learning opportunity for our students!

Our Olympic Celebration and Danceathon Day was a huge success on Wed. Feb. 17. Special thanks to M. Lalonde and Mrs. Wiebe for the hours they spent preparing the Olympic event schedule for our 24 home room classes and to Mme. Tanya and Mr. Mitchell for their help coordinating the Ambassadors and the events.

Many thanks to all our parents who sent in donations for the Danceathon random draw prizes and for the top fundraiser prizes!  What an overwhelming response we had from the parent community to this request!

Together with the 10 different Olympic events, our fantastic DJ and the hot chocolate stop, a great day was had by all!  Many thanks to our parent volunteers who helped serve hot chocolate and ran the Danceathon prize table and to our teachers and grade 7 & 8 Ambassadors who ran the Olympic events that day.  The indoor luge course was a real hit!

Together we raised almost $7000 toward covering the costs of our teacher requests for funds in October (see Ad Hoc Finance Committee under the Minutes tab at www.castorvalley.ca for more information).

"Olympic Closing Ceremonies' were held on Fri. Feb. 26 with cheering for each Canadian athlete who had won a medal to date and an Olympic audiovisual presentation by M. Lalonde's grade 6/7 class.

Thank you also to the teachers and administrators who shared their time and in some cases, their own supplies, so that the students could complete their projects.

A particular thank you to Mme. Brooks for her support and efforts to help and to our parent volunteer, Heather Wilson, who already has so much going on but made room for us on her schedule.
