Housing Stabilization Program has many success stories
Independence House's Housing Stabilization Program offers supportive and stable housing for families affected by domestic violence. A family can reside in the program for up to three years with the main goal of achieving permanent housing. Throughout the program, the family works on personal goals which can include obtaining a job, furthering education, attaining childcare and securing a savings account. Throughout the program, there have been families that have been able to purchase their own homes and condominiums and most importantly live their lives without fear and violence. Most recently, after living in a shelter and then doubled up with family members, a family entered our program. After a few months of being in the program the mother successfully completed a certificate program through a local college. After receiving this training, she was able to secure her dream job. Even working full-time she still wants to pursue other classes and trainings. Through her hard work and perseverance she was able to purchase her own car and also obtained childcare. She continues to work towards her goal of permanent housing and maintaining a life free from violence. |
