From Our Principal...

I hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break and are rejuvenated to make it the rest of the school year! March was certainly a busy month. We had our PYP site evaluation visit at the beginning of the month. Although we have not received any official feedback from IB, our exit interview provided us with good information and a positive feeling from the team. The official outcome will come from IB within a couple of months. The team was very complementary of the support the Field Community provides to our school. Thank you to everyone who had a role in preparing for and participating in the site visit.

The next couple of months will be just as busy. It is hard to fathom how fast this year is progressing. I have enjoyed working along side you and continue to look towards the positive possibilities.

Dr. Bagwell, Principal

Eugene Field Elementary

jbagwell@spsmail.org

From Our PTA President...

Dear friends of Field,

I hope everyone had a great Spring Break!  It was a nice escape before we head down the back stretch of the school year.  I just remembered some great news!  We had no snow days, so we'll be ending the school year on May 23, much earlier than last year.

Before I forget, we would like to congratulate Dr. Bagwell on a great first year as principal of Field Elementary.  She's been great to work with from the PTA perspective.

I would like to give accolades to a couple of programs, one old and one new which epitomize the Field Family.  The first is Chat 'n Chew.  Hundreds of Field students participated in this voluntary reading program supported by many Field volunteers.  The next is the 4th grade Math Club.  It has been meeting on Fridays after school.  Twenty-seven students participate in this volunteer supported club.  Two great ways that volunteers are enriching the lives of our children.

Thanks,

Bill Enos

PTA President

MAP & Terra Nova Time!

Spring always brings with it standardized test time! Although we know our students' growth and progress can not be measured by one test alone, we understand the importance of doing our very best on the MAP.

Testing begins at 9am and students who arrive after this time will have to participate in a make-up session. Please avoid scheduling doctors and dentist appointments on these dates. If you know you will need to pick your child up early during testing, please let us know. We can hold your child out and they can participate in a make-up session because once students start a test they can not stop and go back to it.

2nd Grade - April 10, 11, & 12

3rd Grade - April 3, 4, 5, & 10

4th Grade - April 3, 4, 5, & 6

5th Grade - April 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, & 11

Thank you for your observance of these dates and ensuring your child has had opportunity for a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast.

Backwards Day - Wednesday, April 18
Join in the fun by buying a Wacky Wednesday Spirit Day pass for $1 and wear your clothes backwards to school on Wednesday, April 18. All proceeds will benefit 5th Grade Fundraising.

Congratulations Ms. Bradley!

Congratulations to Field fifth grade teacher Ms. Bradley. She was recently selected as one of Springfield Public School District's Teachers of the Month for March!

Each month, five teachers are selected for the award by the district human resources department. The decision is based on the nomination letters that are submitted. Any SPS teacher may be nominated for Teacher of the Month, but to be selected, the nomination letters need to adequately describe the reasons why the teacher is deserving of the award. The monthly contest is based on their dedication and innovation in the classroom.
