From Our Principal...

Hard to believe 2012 is here! The start of a new year is a natural time to reflect and set goals. "Reflective" is one of our IB learner profile traits and is defined as: giving thoughtful consideration to your own learning by constructively analyzing your personal strengths and weaknesses. There is much to be learned when we take the time to pause and honestly reflect.

As we approach the middle of our school year with the close of 2nd quarter this month, I would like to encourage you to have a reflective conversation with your student about school. Here are some possible conversation ideas:

What is working well at school?

How do you know?

What might be contributing to your success?

What areas might you improve upon?

What might success look like?

What might be some possible goals?

What might you need to remember to do if you are going to reach your goal?

How might we celebrate when you reach your goal?

I would also encourage you to model this practice for your student with examples from your life and work that involve reflection and goal setting. It is good for students to hear adults acknowledge there are areas they desire to grow and the goals they set to get there. We learn best from our own experiences, but there is value in what we can learn from others.

May this year be filled with many lessons and positive growth,

Dr. Bagwell, Principal

Eugene Field Elementary

From Our PTA President...

Welcome back to school!

I hope the holidays were sane, safe, and fun for everyone.  This will be short as I'm still recovering from the holidays.

What's the best way to be involved in your child's education in order to make a difference? Any involvement is good. The actual level of involvement per family is as different as each family. But, if you send your child to school every day prepared to learn you've succeeded. If your child knows that you expect their best at school and that school is important, you've succeeded. If your child is read to, rested, and ready to be a part of the school community, you've succeeded.

Here's to a great final semester of the year and a wonderful 2012!

Bill Enos

PTA President

barnes and noble logoOur annual Barnes & Noble Bookfair fundraiser was a great success thanks to all of our great Field families!

$996.72 was raised to benefit Field PTA and its programming and support of our school!  These funds allow PTA to make its annual contribution to the Field library!  A lot of new books and materials are now available to our children.

Days of Sharing - Cub Scout Food Drive Totals

grocery bag with foodI heard from Ozarks Food Harvest (OFH) and they were so very appreciative of the Field PTA Cub Scout Pack 214's food drive this past weekend!  They brought in 3,350 lbs. of food for OFH!

We also pulled out 593 lbs. of food for the backpack program and 892 for family food baskets.  This made the grand total 4,835 lbs of food collected!  So exciting!

Great job to all the Cub Scouts, their leaders, and families who support them!  The food will provide 2,100 meals for families in the Ozarks!  Thanks to Bill Enos and the National Guard for arranging and providing Hum-Vs and trailers to transport food and Cub Scouts!

Last year, we had a total of 2,593 lbs. brought in from the food drive, counting OFH, backpacks and family baskets.

I am so happy to share this news!  Thank you so much to everyone for all your help!

Howard, Days of Sharing Chair
