Walk This Way

In celebration of International Walk to School Month

(more information to come)

From Our Principal...

Welcome Back! We are off to a great start this year. I have just a few notes for you this month:

1. Has there been a staff member at Field who you would like to recognize for a job well done or going above and beyond? We are going to begin honoring two staff members each month as our Staff of the Month. Parents, students, and staff members can nominate someone who has impacted their life and learning. Because we are at the beginning of the year, you may need to pull from past experiences. Nominations can be emailed to me at: jbagwell@spsmail.org. Please know I will hold on to nominations not selected each month for future consideration. Staff of the Month will be honored at school and announced on the outdoor sign. Thank you for helping us recognize our awesome Field Staff!

2. Because we are a part of the IB World School Community, we have to participate in a self-study evaluation. Field staff have been working on this study since January of 2011. As a part of the study, we need feedback from parents about our school. We will have an online survey accessible to parents the week of September 12. The link will be on our web site and we will send it out through Constant Contact. Thank you in advance for you efforts and time in completing the survey.

3. Ever wonder what Glendale is like?? Field students have the opportunity to visit Glendale with their parents to experience a little taste of high school. Glendale has created the Future Falcon's Soar program to encourage persistence to graduation in the Glendale Feeder Pattern.  Our first date is October 14 from 9:35 to 11:10am. Please contact JJ if you would like to be put on the reservation list.

Also, I have started a Principal's Blog which you can access from the Field website. I hope this will be another useful source of communication for you throughout the year.

With the Children in Mind,

Dr. Bagwell, Principal

Eugene Field Elementary

From Our PTA President...

Welcome back to school!

The Field PTA supports the students and faculty of Field Elementary.  The PTA does this in order to provide a better learning environment, a more enriching school experience and build a community centered on Field.  The PTA does this in many ways and needs all the help and support from the families they can provide.

Most of the programs outlined in the newsletter are coordinated through the PTA and its board and committees.  These and other programs provide food and clothing to our children in the school and the district.  They provide supply resources to the faculty.  They provide learning resources for our students.  They help build a strong school community.

How can you help?  There are many ways to support Field and your child's education.  The most important way is to ensure that everyday your child is ready to learn and be a contributing member of Field.  If this is all your time and resources allow, you have made a huge difference in your child's education.  The more time you have, the more help the school and the PTA can use.  Eat lunch with your child, join the PTA, become a member of our board or a committee. You can help run the Reflections program, which provides a fine arts recognition and exhibition program that is nationwide.  You can help set up or tear down or run the Fall Festival and Spring Dance.  We need help this year for school functions.  If you're not ready this year, but would want to help next year, that would be great!  Any time you can assist is valuable.

Welcome to Field!  Let's make this a great year!

Bill Enos

PTA President

Volunteer at Field Elementary - Policies and Information

Volunteer GraphicOur volunteer program consists of community members, parents, grandparents, local businesses and organizations who acknowledge the importance between community involvement and education. Our volunteers work in a variety of capacities, both inside and outside the classroom from mentoring or tutoring a child to assisting in a school's office or cafeteria.

In order to become a registered volunteer, and keep your volunteer status current, volunteers must complete and return a Volunteer Registration/Background Check Form each year. This form may be obtained by clicking the SPS link below, in the Community Relations Office, or in the main office of our schools. Anyone volunteering directly with children at our school must perform the registration and background check.

"Policy and Responsibilities" information and the "Volunteer Registration Form" may be downloaded at http://springfieldpublicschoolsmo.org/volunteer/ or by clicking link below.

Field Flyer is Green!

We have been able to reduce paper waste by using Constant Contact as the primary distribution means for our PTA Newsletter and other important notices.

The email list is composed annually at the same time as directory publishing. If you have signed up to be included in the 2011-12 Field Directory, you will automatically be included in our Constant Contact email list. You may sign-up for the email list at any time by sending your email address to Carol Wooten at carolwooten@mchsi.com.  If at anytime you would like to unsubscribe to our email list, you may do so by clicking the "SafeUnsubscribe" button located at the bottom of every email.

For those without access to a computer or email, a limited number of hard copies of the Field Flyer newsletter will be printed and placed in the information stand at the front of the school. Thank you for your support as we move toward becoming a more environmentally-conscious school.
