A Letter from PTA President
Welcome to Field PTA!

Let's work together to make this year great! I would like to personally invite each of you to make the commitment to serve with me and the rest of a passionate and dedicated group of parents and teachers this year. Start this year off by joining PTA. You are welcome to contact myself or any of our fellow PTA leaders to learn more about how to get involved. Your choice to help will make a great difference.

Whether it means joining our PTA Board, serving on a committee, or lending a hand for 5, 10, or 30 minutes during this year - WE NEED YOU! Your thoughts, concerns, questions, and ideas are needed and can help us continue to be the best we can be. Your time is needed so that we can work together for the benefit of each child. If each parent gave 30 minutes of their time to serve a need imagine what we could do together for Field?

Our first General Membership Meeting is on Tuesday, September 28th.  The meeting will be right before Open House. This is a great time to learn more about Field PTA, sign up to lend a hand, and get to know other families at Field!

Join me in volunteering this year with creativity and commitment to serving our community at Field with love and respect. Let's get involved by taking positive action at Field thus demonstrating to our children the desire to take positive action in the world.

Mr. Z's Fundraiser
Please be sure to return your Mr. Z's packet with all order forms by Wednesday, September 8th.  Mark your calendars for pick up on Monday, October 4th.

The purpose of this fundraiser is to support our operational budget within Field PTA. By doing so you are supporting programs such as the Discovery Center educational enrichment series, funding for field trips, the Springfield Opera in-house performance in the Spring, and more.  Your contributions will also help to support our efforts to provide resources to each teacher at Field for classroom supplies and guided reading sets.

Prizes for items sold are featured in the Mr. Z's brochure within the packet.  For each item sold 40-50% goes back to Field PTA.

You are welcome to make a donation to Field PTA in lieu of or in addition to selling Mr. Z's items.  If you chose to make a donation, 100% goes back to Field PTA.

Prizes for Donations during the Mr. Z's fundraiser are as follows:
5.00 Donation = Participation/1 Item Sold

Prizes for Students
"Make Your Own Ice Cream Sundae Party,"
Sell 3 items OR make a donation of at least $15.00 (per student) to attend.

"Blast a Rocket for a Chance to Win 100.00"
Sell 20 items OR make a donation of at least $100.00 (per student) for a chance

Please Note:
All money is due when you return your order forms on September 8th.  To save time for our volunteers, please send in your order forms along with one check made payable to Field PTA within your Mr. Z's packet.

Your support is greatly appreciated!
Five for Food - $5 can make a real difference!
The Field PTA backpack program announces a
Five for Food campaign.backpack program When purchasing food for the backpack program, every dollar counts!

Each single week during the school year, many of our students are supplied with backpacks filled with nutritious food to take home over the weekend. As the economy has been weakened, the need has become greater. The committee often purchases food in bulk for this program to stretch PTA dollars further.

Food donations are always welcome, but in the interest of trying to keep items being sent home uniform, the Backpack Committee hopes some might consider it's Five for Food campaign. A special can will be kept in the front office of the school for the collection of contributions.

The Five for Food can will remain in the office throughout the year. Please give as you are able to help make sure every student in our school is concentrating more on their studies than hunger.
PTA Clothing Bank
The PTA Clothing Bank is now open on Wednesdays from 9:00-3:30 PM when school is in session (except for the first Wednesday of the month).  The clothing bank is also closed during the months of December and May.

Please contact, our school secretary, Mrs. Dixon, for more information about this service provided by Springfield Council of PTA's.

Field's PTA work date is September, 15th from 9am - 3pm.
Please contact our Clothing Bank Chair, Lisa Conover, at lmmc_97@yahoo.com to lend a hand on this work day.

Volunteer Policies and Information
Volunteering with Springfield Public Schools

Our volunteer program consists of community members, parents, grandparents, local businesses and organizations who acknowledge the importance between community involvement and education. Our volunteers work in a variety of capacities, both inside and outside the classroom from mentoring or tutoring a child to assisting in a school's office or cafeteria.

In order to become a registered volunteer, and keep your volunteer status current, volunteers must complete and return a Volunteer Registration and Background Check Form each year. This form may be obtained by clicking the SPS Volunteer Registration link below, in the Community Relations Office, or in the main office of our schools.
Upon a clear background check from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, you will be sent written notification (please allow up to 14 business days) which you may be required to present at the school you are volunteering.

Anyone volunteering directly with children at our school must perform the registration and background check.
Field Flyer is Green!
We have been able to reduce paper waste by making use of Constant Contact as a means to send our PTA Newsletter as well as notifications of events, and last minute changes.

The email list is recomposed annually at the same time as directory publishing. Please, if you have not already signed up for directory/Constant Contact or have not been receiving your e-newsletter, send your email address to Carol Wooten at carolwooten@mchsi.com.

For those without access to a computer or email, hard copies of the newsletter will continue to be printed and placed in the flyer distribution stand directly inside the front door at Field. Thank you for your support as we move toward becoming a more environmentally-conscious school.

PTA Reflections Program
PTA believes all children deserve a quality arts
education and Reflectionsencourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in its annual arts Reflections Program. The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art in six areas:  dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts (which includes art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, and collage).

This year's Reflections theme is "Together We Can."
