A Letter from PTA President
| How do you measure the success of a program? I guess it depends
whether you are a Republican or a Democrat. Fortunately, at Field,
things are not that political or all that complicated. Simply, you
look at the kids. What are they achieving? What are they doing in
society with the tools they have been handed? Are they taking risks or
just sitting on the sidelines?
I was reminded by a parent recently that the kids from Field are making a pretty big impact in this town already. At Central High School,
four former Field Students ran for Student Council. Jordan Salvato for
President, James McShane for Vice President, Rachel Choe and Brit Pybus
for Secretary. James and Rachel were elected. Congratulations to all
of them for just putting themselves out there!
Two
juniors were nominated for the Homecoming Court. David Langdon for the
basketball homecoming and Pfeifer Brown for football homecoming.
Speaking of Pfeifer, she made it several rounds in the American Idol
auditions. Although she did not make the final cut, she may have
exciting opportunities opening up for her because of this. Hollywood?
Griff Jones had theatrical success in the lead role in the school play
"Urinetown". Clearly, the children from Field have thrived both
socially and academically at Central.
They are not
just making an impact at Central. There have been other achievements
as well. Barrett Barker, a 7th grader at Pershing, won his individual
sections in the Science Olympiad this February. The band Supercharge
was recognized in 417 Magazine for best local YouTube video.
Jessi and Joni Lemons of the Retrognomes have been rocking Springfield
as well, and making some pretty good videos themselves. The youth leadership
of Boy Scout Troop 7 consists of three boys and two of them are Field
graduates. However, one of the coolest things I saw was a day or two
after the Haiti earthquake. This young boy at Field brought in an
empty 5 gallon water cooler jug. He told me he had put in his own
money and wanted to start collecting money from others to help those in
Haiti. I saw that same container several days later as it was making its way
through the school and it was filling up. All these kids are such
heroes! I am confident that there are many more stories of the
wonderful things that other kids have done who graduated from or who
are attending Field. In fact, share them with me. I would love to
hear from you!
It is clear that we have kids who are
willing to put themselves outside the box. They are inquisitive. They
maintain high ethics. They are leaders. They look to the world beyond
their own little bubble. They take risks. They are able to do this
because they have parents and teachers who encourage these ideas and
support them in their victories and failures. My hat is off to all
you. Now, if only we could get them to clean their room. Have a great
day!

Field Flyer Goes Green!
|
Constant Contact has been a tremendous success this year. We have been able to reduce paper waste
by making use of Constant Contact as a means to send our PTA Newsletter
as well as notifications of events, and last minute changes.
Please,
if you have not already signed up for or have not been receiving your e-newsletter, send your email
address to Carol Wooten at carolwooten@mchsi.com.
Our next big step in eliminating paper waste is to move entirely to the
emailed version of this newsletter. The April Edition of the Field
Flyer will be the last hardcopy newsletter you will receive home via
your child's backpack. For those without access to a computer or
email, hard copies of the newsletter will continue to be printed and
placed in the flyer distribution stand directly inside the front door
at Field. All questions and comments regarding this change may be
directed to Alice Weimer at 844-4792 or alice@weimer.cc. Thank you for your support as we move toward becoming a more environmentally-conscious school.
