Greetings!
Okay, well, half of August is over and we have found ourselves really busy, but we were still thinking and planning to get the newsletter done! Since the beginning of August we have been busy stocking the new fall/winter yarns. The yarns will continue coming in through the beginning of September. We know we aren't the only ones that are busy in August. The Iowa State Fair is going strong, especially with the really nice weather that arrived at fair time! Everyone that has children in school is busy school shopping. And all the teachers are readying their classrooms and preparing teaching plans. Whew! All this busyness makes me want to take a knitting break! In the process of stocking our shelves and preparing for other new yarns, we have set aside a really nice selection of discontinued yarn styles and colors that we are offering to you at a discount. You will want to come in soon for the best selection. This Saturday, August 20th---1 day only, we will offer a 30% discount for full bag "sale yarn" purchases (all 10 skeins must be the same color). You won't want to miss this chance to get discounts on Rowan, Mirasol, Araucania, and more! We will be open from 10 to 4:30. The Yarn Bombing didn't happen yet... We failed to get approval from the authorities, and that is the only way we will do it. We are still collecting swatches, strips and other odds and ends of knitting and crochet. We could really use some brighter colors! The point is for the "yarn graffiti" to stand out, so bland colors are probably not going to make it into the yarn bombing when we do it. Nancy has decided to decorate in front of the shop with some pieces that she and Megan have made especially for the shop. Tuesday evenings from 6-8 pm in September and October we have added a KAL (knit-along) for Jared Flood's Rock Island Shawl. You will need to purchase and download the pattern from Ravelry. We have special ordered a large quantity of colors in gorgeous Mountain Colors Winter Lace Junior especially for this two-month event. Remember that a KAL is NOT a class. There is no class fee, but we aren't teaching you how to knit lace. You must be familiar with lace knitting as we can't help everyone out of their proverbial lace "pickles." If you have questions about whether you know enough to participate in this, please come in and see Nancy. Nancy will be sharing her many tips for knitting this shawl with those of you that participate. Be sure to stop by the shop and see and feel Nancy's finished Rock Island Shawl. Be sure to check out the upcoming classes for September and early October in the class section. We have a mitten class, a crochet for knitters class, a cabled headband, a crocheted bag class, and a sock class coming soon. |
